Default How do you bleed your clutch?

Ok, I know i need to buy a service manual but im lazy about it so I am just curious as to how you bleed your clutch on a 99' Honda Superhawk?
I see the bleeder, but what steps do I take so I dont really mess something up?
Thanks Guys!

The SuperHawks have hydraulic clutches. So we can put two wristbands on instead of just one.

First, get lots and lots of rags. You might want to remove the upper fairing (I described it in your other post about coolant). Brake fluid is highly corrosive to your bike's plastics. Anything near the clutch cylinder should be covered with rags.

Clutch fluid DRAINING

1. Turn handlebar to the right so the reservoir is level. Remove the stopper plate, reservoir cap, set plate, and diaphragm.

2. Connect a bleed hose to the clutch slave cylinder bleed valve (it's near the cluch. The bleed valve is the upper one next to a bolt on the circular object).

3. Loosen the bleed valve and pump the clutch lever until no more fluid comes out.

Clutch fluid FILLING/BLEEDING

1. Fill up the reservoir with DOT 4 brake fluid.

2. Connect a brake bleeder to the bleed valve (I use a Mityvac, but something similar is fine).

3. Loosen the bleed valve and pump the brake bleeder.

4. Add brake fluid when the reservoir indicator is near low (don't let it empty, or else you'll get more air into the line that you'll need to bleed out later).

5. Repeat until there are no more air bubbles in the plastic hose.

This can be done without a brake bleeder, but it's easiest with one. Also, having a friend to check the level and add fluid, or just someone to talk to, or make sure you don't pour coolant into the clutch reservoir, helps the process move faster.

Thanks marmaladeboy!

I will try and bleed it this weekend. Hopefully this will solve most of my problems, if not I will have to get a new clutch installed. I think anyways. :-)
The only thing I am worried about is taking my baby into a mechanic that I dont trust. And there are a lot of those around here. I think I will just take it into a honda dealership when I move to Florida so I can have it rejetted and looked over.
Thanks Again!

Ask other riders who they take their bikes to when they are confronted with something that's beyond their abilities. Most motorcyclists will let you know which mechanics to avoid.

It's a good idea to rejet when you move to Florida because of the change in altitude.
