I just bought an xm direct for my girlfriend, she has the same deck i do, cdm9827. I bought the xm smart digital adapater (xmd1000) and unversal tuner box for satellite radio decks (xmdalp100). I have a few questions on setting this up and if i need any other parts.

The tuner box didnt come with an external tuner or remote like my commander did. So from what i understand, the xm will be displayed on her deck with the digital adapter. How can you tune the stations? Will you have to do it by deck only, no remote?

 

well unless your radio is an AI NET unit ( A is before the model number)
your are not gonna be avble to use that gear in the manner of which you think you can. Sorry

 

if you have a cda9827 that is xm ready (it can actually do sirius too), you'll just need to connect the 2 boxes together, connect it to the ai-net connector (same as used for a cd changer, ipod control, etc..) and you'll be able to control it through the alpine deck. you tune it just like am/fm and use the quicksearch to move between music categories and text information.

 

yea it does have ai net.

i cant use the alpine remote to browse through channels though?

 

you can use the remote, that came in the box (it will say rue-4187). everything gets controlled and displayed through the xm ready deck. this is the advantage of an xm ready deck. everything is directly connected.

you must have the xm commander, the xmrvrfm001. that is designed to work with radios that are not directly xm compatible. it has a line output, which you probably will connected to a kca121b and have the display controller mounted somewhere. it also has a built in fm modulator. if this is the case, you need to use the xm commander remote and your alpine remote to control your entire system by remote, while your girlfriend does not.

But she will be able to browse xm channels via alpine remote?

 

yes.

the remote with the head unit can change presets and channels

her radio must be a cda9827, not the cdm9827 you posted above (which was confusing some people about the Ai-Net)

 

if you have the xmd100/xmalp100, it will all be controlled through the deck and you can use the remote or the buttons on the faceplate itself.
