Cold Air intake and gas mileage
I've read that installing a K&N Air Filter will most likely increase my gas mileage b/c it helps keep the air cold.
I am wondering if one of these will do the same thing?

I know that the cold air intake in the above image is meant to increase HP... but will it also increase my gas mileage?
Or should I just stick with the stock airbox and just get the K&N air filter?

I would say if your not looking to spend a lot. Buy the cold air intake system off ebay for like 15 to 20 bucks, then buy a new K&N cone filter. Those ebay filters suck.

that would be a sure i'm a dumass and should go drink bleach..wat a ******.. i would say that it would increse the gas milage man and even your horsepower..cold air cause the engine to keep cool and not work as hard..

I'd say it wound hurt your gas milage, because if you're like me you'll just press the accelerator more to listen to the new engine roar

It could turn out that way... maybe I should keep the old one just in case
This is mainly a DD, so I don't forsee myself revving the hell out of it to drive a few miles.

im sporting the ebay intake with k&n filter right now. ive noticed my gas mileage went down since i installed it.. but i cant really say that for sure. i did get 33 mpg on a tank with it installed, but ive also gotten 27 mpg. its in a 91 civic si. and like everyone else said, DONT use the ebay air filter. wait till you get a k&n .. cause the ebay ones suck, and not in a good way.

Ugh, it's stuff like this that makes me second guess the whole idea. Has anyone else experienced lower gas mileage after installing one of these puppies?

hmmm...... here is my theory.
being as that the ECU in your car is programmed for "X" amount of air from the stock intake, then changing it to "Y" amount of air would kinda lean out the fuel mixture. Thus making the engine want to correct the problem and letting in more fuel to fit the "Y" mixture properly.
So maybe it will actually hurt gas milage alittle bit. But then thats just according to my theory.
But then again i remember reading way back in the day about how a stock engined civic (90s model) got better gas milage from having header/intake/exhaust because everything was able to flow through the engine with more ease.
Who knows? either way everyone and their dog has one (except me
) so you could just join the clue. I mean how can over a thousand import fans, and actors from F&F be wrong????

2 miles a gallon aint gunna break the bank.....seriously if you want an intake buy it...Its NOT going to hur your car

lol cold air is more denser therefore when conbustion takes place in your engine theres more pressure meaning more power, and since its because of more air getting in your computer adjusts and actually you use more fuel lolz becuase it has a set ratio for that amount of air which is read by your map sensor so infact it doesnt really increase gas milage it makes it more useful with more power and response
WTF, CAI will NOT effect your gas, Maybe 1 mile, MAYBE.
only thing that will effect your MPG, is you flooring it cause of your "New Found Power", witch is very LITTLE.

just to clarify, my mpg didnt change noticeably. i have gotten both 27 and 33 mpg on different tanks on my car, the time i got 33 is almost all highway, and 27 was when i drove mostly in the city and i generally cant keep my foot out of it in that case. i would say that if i had to say how much my mpg changed, it went down 1-2 mpg. negligible to me, but i used to drive a chevy nova that got 7 mpg. yes. 7 mpg.
I've installed these cheap air filter systems on more than one car(both hondas), and noticed no power or MPG difference in either of them. All I got was a nice sound from under the hood in one of them and possibly the same thing in the other, but I can't hear it over the VTEC, lol.

actually, when you're not accellerating much, it runs in a closed loop which takes feedback about how rich/lean it is from the O2 sensor. however, it still wouldn't use more gas, because, to keep the same speed, you'd use the same amount of molecules of air, and to control that, the butterfly on your throttle wouldn't be open QUITE as much.
don't know if i explained it the best
however, i think we're over-exaggerating the role cold air intakes play. i know i don't have one, and i can get up to 36 mpg on the highway with my civic si that has a couple hundred thousand miles on the motor and tranny.

and it doesnt really matter if its short ram or standard cai, you wont notice a difference between them. when they say they add 10-15hp instantly, its bs. maybe 3. 5 if your lucky. and thats not to the wheels. as for gas mileage, i dont really know. i drive hard and fast, so i only get like 33mpg in my dx with e/i/h
so its your call
