loud knocking noise in the engine. I spun a bearing on a 3.8L and anything above 2K it would knock like no tomorrow. I didn't feel anything when the engine was running because it was not missing.

A rod bearing will sound like a knocking noise. Almost a thud.

A spun bearing from high revving and low oil would sound like a really bad squeak, at least on a v8
