Looking for CRX buying advise, what is the benifit of buying si over lower models
im planning on a b series swap so i dont care which motor if any comes with it!! also if i see some rust on the body what is this telling me? Is the entire car not worth buying or can i just replace the infected body panels, i am a novice mechanic so im worried that im biting off more thaN I CAN CHEW, i JUST go crazy when i see a crx , they rank up there with s2000 in my book , and with a 7000 budget for part one im very limited. P.s part one is going to be car and engine only!!
Si's have sunroofs, swaybars, and push button climate controls rather than sliders!... oh and nastalgia (sp).
just a few differences!
just a few differences!
If you don't like wiring get and Hf since it is wired for 4 injectors however you will have to swap the spindles to DX/Si in order to use correct axles.
If you don't mind wiring you can get a CRX (DX) then you'll have to wire in 2 more injectors and get reisitor box and switch some wires.
Hf is lightest model in the fleet.
All CRX's have the same push button control in them no matter what the trim level. Si's have sporty seats, sunroof, better pedal assemby, closer ratio tranny, etc....most of these items can be added on to any other trim level with minor mods

- Look for excessive oil around dist mounts, could indicate a dist bearing problem = need to buy new dist.
- Make sure it runs
Rust
- Bring a magnet w/ you to test for Bondo
- Look for rust around rocker panels (thats the part of the bottom door frame)
- Rust around Rear fender lips.
- Rust UNDER the rear bumper
- rust around edge of sunroof (if Si). if its bad it could cause a leak
Misc
- Touch all over the carpet and look for wet spots, could indicate rusting out the floor.
- Climate control cracked (as mentioned above, but doesnt affect usability)
- Look for over spray around engine bay. like on the headlight trim and ANY weather stripping. This could indicate a collision and a BAD repair job.
Have fun with your crx!

Well from my experiences with crxs, there are not to many big differences just some smaller ones but they make a big difference if you have a certain preference in how you like your car. Right now I am on my 5th crx and its the 3rd Si I've owned. I also have done a 16 swap on one of these. The one I own now is a 91 crx Si, it's the last year they made that body style. It has some differences from the 86 & 89 I used to have, such as 4 wheel disc, cruise control, front lower lip and plus all the other things everyone else has been talking about on this forum. But, the best thing is the wiring harness doesn't have to be changed to do the swap you are wanting to do. Which by the way is a bitch for most novice mechanics or even some major mechanics. But also with a 7 G budget you can do quite a bit. In fact if you need a CRX I do have that 91 for sale.
i live in cincinatti so id really like to buy it within 100 miles of me , of course id be willing to travel for the perfect specimen, are the b series swaps more complicated than say a b into a 92-95 civic? is it a space issue? Last question if the panels are a bit rusty, and i have them repaired id it going to continue rusting? Im a moron when it comes to older cars thanks for the help

1992 Would be the last year that Honda made that body style.
I don't think Cruise is standard or optional from Honda for the CRX.

Thats rare. Someone must have put a civic one in there. The crx ones are known to crack

Last November, I flew from Shreveport, Louisiana to Maryland ($55, good deal
) and drove an '88 CRX Si back to Shreveport (about 20 hours). Took me a few days but it was well worth it! $850 for an '88 w/ full body kit, fenders, and a muff! Granted at the time I was very low on cash but stil definetely worth it. I'd recommend finding something that doesn;t have the rear fender cancer yet. It ain't too bad to repair but try to avoid. Also, I see a fairly decent amount of guys selling just the shell (no interior or engine) for reasonable prices on eBay and AutoTrader. I would never buy another DX and don't buy an automatic.
All in all make sure you look around and work out a budget. That way you won't be back on here in 6 months trying to sell your project CRX. Make sure to check out crxsi.com too. They got a huge ******* listing of the differences between the CRXs later.

all crxs are nce but if you want the easyist/best platform to build on i would have to say the 90-91 crx rear disk brakes front/back sway bars very nice intereior (try to find one with the cargo cover) over all its a little heavy but not by much
Well the swap itself is a bit tricky just like any swap, but, you do have just a little bit more room to work in the hatch because it is a larger vehicle. I am partial to the crx swap though so I always like to here of people doing one. The rust issue is simple, just fix it and check the rest of the surrounding areas for weak spots or light rust sand it and use a rust inhibitor to kill the rust before you paint or do body work it should take care of the problem. As for the car if someone was serious about buying it I would make arrangements.
But if you want a CRX that you don't have to mess around with swapping this and that from various years and other styles then 91 Si would be a better choice especially if you do have a budget plus being a novice mech. makes it easier on the person. He's going to have enough on his plate doing a b series swap. But the 88 is good idea if someone would want to do the extra.
