Intake questions.. Please help
Hi all...I desparate for answers and I hope the pros here can help me out.
I own a 6th gen V6 accord and recently had a retrofit done on my headlights (installing projectors onto my stock OEM headlights)...
the problem is, driver side headlight housing did not fit back onto the car because of the newly added projector and the intake was in the way...
Can i cut a U-shape on the intake and have the projector sitting right on top of it??(there will be blockage of air flow although now completely). Will this affect performance and can this be dangerous?
Please give me any inisights you may have... thank you and sorry for the complicated problem.

Well, I just installed an intake last night in my 99 Accord. I'll tell you one thing, the reason you have a filter on the intake is to keep the air clean. Unless you seal the hole in the intake, you could be drawing unclean air. It's probably not a good idea, but we'll let more experienced people tell you so. Good luck
It is not advisable to cut a hole in your intake without providing some sort of filter over that hole...you could feasibly cut your intake down to a shorty pipe and put the filter at the end of it, but it will be drawing warm air in from the engine bay (if your currently running a CAI). Your car isnt going to be effect much by the change in intake pipe length, and it will save you the headache of trying to fabricate some sort of filter on the side of the intake where you cut a chunk out of it (which will kinda make the regular filter useless anyways, since air will draw from the closest inlet...
If you can, cut your pipe down...if you have a stock intake and your talking about the resonator box thats in the way, try replacing your intake with an aftermarket one, in that situation an aftermarket one should relieve the room perfectly to fit your headlight in.

yeah, the pipe is the thing im cutting... the one next to the box... i cut a u-shape so that the projector can fit... now the projector is literally sitting on the hole opening of that pipe...
is this good or bad? is it imperative that I get a aftermarket short ram intake or I can ride this out?
Thanks in advance...

You dont even need an expensive aftermarket intake. You can just get some flex piping (the kind of stuff they sell for ducting in buildings) and replace that area with a section of it. You could even remove the piping between the airbox and the IM and replace it with this stuff and use a hose clamp to attach it, and remove it and replace it with OEM when you sell or upgrade.
Or you could get a cheap EBAY short ram and put a good K&N filter on it.

Leave a hole in the intake for very long and your gonna notice something happen....... YOUR CAR WONT RUN ANYMORE!!!!
Just get a cheap intake off eGay, slap a K&N filter on it and call it a day
