O2 Sensor??? Controls?
Now besides the tranny sensor i located taht my o2 sensor is also out? I know it is important but will it really destroy my engine??? What does it control??? Why do you need this ???????????? I mean does it lag horsepower? Does it cost alot to get a new sensor??? I just need some help how to take it off? IS it complicated????? HeLP?
Your o2 sensor checks the level of pollution your shooting into the air. If I remember correctly, you should have one on the top your cat, and one on the bottom. Thus, the one on the top should read much higher than the one on the bottom, because the cat should've have cleaned it. Now, would it affect hp or anything, no probably not, but you probably won't pass smog.
This all depends on if your OBD1 or OBD2.........if your OBD1 you have one O2 before the cat, and it measures oxygen content in the exhaust...........if your OBD2 you have one before and one after the cat, the one after the cat should measure a straight line voltage if the cat is working............more often than not if your throwing an O2 code something else is causing that sensor not to read right..........such as, lean or rich conditions caused by a long list of crap...........the o2 sensor does not control anything, BUT it will send that signal to the ECU and the ecu will control lots of things...............Lets say that your O2 is reading rich, it will send that signal to the ecu and the ecu will either modify injecter pulse width or on time to lean out the mixture..........Sometimes o2 sensors go out but I wouldnt place blame on that just yet......... also OBD2 likes to try and cover up emissions problems
