Just got my head back from the machine shop
Last Saturday, I stripped my engine apart to get some headwork done and replace the Rod Bearings! I dropped everything off on Monday and got everything back today(DAMN thats fast). Not knowing anyone out here I went to a guy my friends referred me too out here, named Johnny at Precision Auto Machine. I had him clean the head, mill it .025", and do a competition 3 angle valvejob; and I must say he did a good job!
Before taking the head in however I did my own porting and polishing(being poor will make you do stuff like that
)! I got rid of the casting marks, smoothed out the lil hump in the bowl area, and port matched the IM to the head! I made the ports a lil bigger but not much. Instead of using the head I pulled off of the motor, I decided to use one of the extra heads I had laying around, however I chose one in paticular. I still have the head from my old B18b, however it isnt a P75, its a PR4Y! For some reason though the ports are a lil bigger than on my other heads! Also the head has a casting above the date stamp that has 3 japanese symbols in 3 lil boxes! Has anyone ever seen this before? I havent seen this on any other motor I have ever owned! If you know enlighten me please! Also I am having my exhaust manifold welded this weekend too so i can grind down the welds that are on the inside of my JDM ITR header!
Now that everything is done all I am waiting on are my ACL bearings to come in(which is supposed to be Friday) and I will start wrenching again to put it back together. Look for more pics up this weekend as I will be taking them as I put the motor back together. Hopefully I will come up with some more money so I can get this bitch tuned too! I would like to see 185-190whp!
Any thoughts/comments?
Now here's the fun stuff: pics

Here is a pic of the japanese symbols on my head! Anyone ever seen this before?

Keep us updated on your Ls, props for not wanting to cheap out and just get vtec lol, your actually being different and it looks like your going to make some pretty good power. Are you going to be running a different header or no?

No, using the same header. Might get a new one in the future, but right now I have no money and my purchase is going to be buying time onthe dyno.

The date stamp! The PR4Y heads were made in 1993 only, but were on B18b's; which means they most likely came on 94 Integras. As far as what it stands for(PR4Y), it is just a part number for the type of cast head it is, just like PR4-2, P75, P8R, PR3, etc.

im sorry i didn't mean what it stood for I just wanted to know what motor it came from.
so PR4Y is most likley a 94 b18b head
PR4-2? what's the b18a casting number? obd2 b18b? just curious thanks.. btw awesome build
*edit the head in my basement is a pr4-5 from a b18b, but the head casting says it was made in 1990.. ?

Then most likely it is a B18a head! Most OBD-2 LS/B20 heads are P75. From 90-93 the LS head went through several changes, thats why there is so many different casting numbers.
Yes I am hoping I will see some decent gains from this! After tuning and all, my next mods will mostly be a better exhaust manifold or a new set of gears for the GSR tranny.

Thanks Hybrid for giving us LS motor owners some hope for decent performance. I can't wait to see the power your new head work will gain.
I was wondering if you are still on stock valves?
And what do you torque your ARP rod bolts to?
Thanks again and keep the pictures coming.

No, I am running Ferrea SS valves! I wanted to go 2mm oversized intake valves but didnt have the money for it right now!
According to ARP, the rod bolts are to be torqued down to 26 lbs.

I usually use OEM piston rings, but this time I am using Nippon Racing Piston Rings!

yea after i read this post i went and looked at my head and it said pr4-1 on the exhaust side and pr4y on the intake side. i heard hastings rings are good so im gonna pick up a set for my used pr3 pistons...didnt really feel the need to go all suoer money spendy on my first build, plus im on a budget. ill be happy if it just runs with no problems...lol, and make decent power.
