Default Trying to diagnose the problem

I just bought a nice CRX for $300 the guy says he blew the motor up I get it home and it turns over, timing is fine and sounds about right except it won't start I checked pressure on the cylinders and the needle hardly moves on any of the cylinders but when turning it over I don't hear any wierd sounds. think maybe it has a blown head gasket?

Is the timing belt intact? Could be the head gasket but I would think you would get a little bit of compression on at least one of the cylinders.

yeah timing belt still intact a little lose, but still right on. the needle just shakes usually if it gets above 10 the needle will stick so you know what the highest point was. Looks like we will be taking the head off soon. maybe time for a good D17 or D16 with MPFI harness and a OBD 1 conversion kit also. the motor and tranny have around 350,000 miles.

take it apart. bring the head and the bottom end to a machine shop and have them test it. If it tests ok, have them resurface both sides incase it was overheated and warped. Machine shops are relatively cheap for what you get. prolly cost ya $100, maybe less.
Only real way to go about it. You don't want to go replacing all the seals just to try to fire the engine after all that work and find it's the rings or valves that are the problem...

WOW 350k You could probably rebuild it and make it hit 500k LOL
Other option. just get a new engine for the hell of it. Good Si engines are easy to find from people that have recently swapped in B-series engines.
