Replacing CD/radio deck in 98 civic ex coupe- need help please
OK, I have gotten multiple answers on this from multiple shops. I was going to do this install myself, but now I am not so sure, can you guys convince me otherwise?
(btw, i did a search but was unable to find answers for all of my questions) I have a haynes manual, but it only shows the dash for the integra removal, not the civic.
I have a poineer premier cd deck that I want to install in the upper part of the dash. My car currently has the radio part in the upper area, and the cd player down by the cup holders (stock location).
1. how the heck do i pull the upper radio part out, i tried prying at the sides around the radio, but it would not give enough for me to feel comfortable about yanking some more.
2. Where can I get an insert for down where the cd player is, i don't want to have an unusable cd player sitting down there.
3. I do have keyless entry on the car, I was told by one install shop that the keyless enrty usues the stock radio as part of the transmitter, I would have to keep part of the radio somewhere in the car, and they have a place that they "hide" it. They also said if i wire it incorrectly that I would lose the functionality of my dome light and my lights for behind everything but the dash.
I would like to do this myself, i did the install for my integra, and had no problem. I have the wire harness left over from the integra (1996 GSR) will it be the same? I already have the plastic surrounds for the upper area, I just want to get the darn thing done!!!
Thank you for all your help

I just read on another forum that the brain for the keyless entry is located in the stock unit
Grrrrr, now if i get an aftermarket alarm with keyless enrty do I still have to keep the stock one around, or could i just chunk the damned thing?

Yes, your radio has the keyless entry ( and domelight) running through the radio. You can still get your domelight to work with a new radio but in order to still use your factory remote you have to power up the factory radio. You can purchase a harness from a reputable dealer to add an aftermarket radio and hide the factory radio behind the lower center dash piece( the panel with the cigarette lighter plug attached to it). To get the radio out you need to drop the glove box door and take out the two screws. Drop the lower dash panel below the steering column(three screws). Then take the screws that hold the cigarette lighter panel out and you will see two silver screws up behind the radio that hold it in. Take those out and the radio slides out from the front. Go to honda and buy the pocket to replace the cd player. You need to take the center console out to get to the screws. Good luck
