I learned to ride on a Suzuki SV650, still love the bike, sure it doesn't look as sporty as a R1 or anything but its a blast to ride, costs thousands less than most sportbikes, and the few times I've dropped its hasn't caused to much damage and cost, as compared to dropping a sportbike with lots of plastic.

The ZX6R (600 Ninga) is a 'fairly' good bike to start on. I would highly suggest you take the MSF course first! The only problem I see with the ZX6R as a starting bike, is that the bike itself will cost you more, your insurance will cost you more, maintenence will cost you more as will replacing parts WHEN you DO go down. (Plus you'll probably be going ALOT faster on the Ninga when this happens)

Just some advice, know your limits and ride smart. Think it through thouroughly(<-dont know how to spell) before you buy a bike. They're not as forgiving as a car.

yeah if i do get a bike i will definetly take a course. No doubt in my mind.

And i do not have a problem with knowing that eventually i will dump, and ill try like hell to prevent but thats part of learning.

And although i do love to go fast in anything, but i do know my limits, Guarebtee ill be scared shitless when i get on a bike for teh first time.

Thanks for the help

I recommend taking the MSF course before you buy. After some time in the saddle, your perception of what you want/need in a bike will probably change.

I learned on a 1989 Yamaha FZR400 which I bought new in 1991. It was a great bike and its too bad we don't get 400 sportbikes here anymore. 600's are a bit big for newbies and 250's are too small for some so the 400 was a great comprimise. My wife started on a 2000 Ninja 250 and loves it. I currently own a 1999 SV650S and am very satisfied. 50percentrice, sorry to hear you dropped your SV a "few times". I also recommend you take the course if you don't have any experience on a bike. Another thing to think about is buying good quality riding gear. Don't be one of those guys rding around in a T-shirt!

learned on my current and first bike, f4i. Still need to take the MSF course to get my license. Been riding for about 4 months on my permit, I have to get my license before a year since I got my permit in Ca. There should be no concern what bike you chose to be your first. If you doubt your driving style or don't trust your self control, then don't get a fast or expensive bike...so you can save your *** and your wallet. So, there's no limit on a beginners bike, only a limit on what the beginner feels comfortable to start out with. Many told me a 600cc is way too much bike to start out with, but I knew I wouldn't do anything stupid to get me into trouble, so now I feel that a larger bike with more torque would be better for daily driving. I mainly use the bike for commuting from home and school, but when I have the time this summer, I intend to take a few racing schools at willow springs raceway to put the bike to more use than commuting.

i learned on my tweaked katana 600. i also learned the hard way .
i wouldnt suggest a new bike for learning on . you will drop it at least once .
and 929 for the 1st bike, you are sick .
but i did the coarse and it taught me alot more . i started riding a month or 2 before the course so i had an idea , but learned alot more avasive menuvers on that course that would have helped a few weeks before when i dropped it
