The forbidden question: Speculative HP gain from a few boltons
Hi!
I have a 2001 ITR and are putting these babies on:
Mugen Airbox
Mugen 4-2-1 Gym header
Type1 Racing testpipe
Stock B pipe w. a Spoon N1 axleback
Could anyone with experience from these parts toss me an estimate in powerincrease? The car is otherwise stock, and this is a B18C6 EDM ITR.
thanks

Hey Tord!
You should see some nice gains over stock with that setup. However, as you know, all dyno's are different. If I guessed, that $2,000 Euros will make you a bit over 15 hp on a dyna pack

I gained 12.5% whp and 8.5% wtq (at the "max" readings) with:
Mugen Intake
JDM OEM 4-1
Fujitsubo RM-01A
Also important to note is that my 'max' tq reading went from approx 6000 to almost 8100 - the before/after mugen intake dyno showed that my tq curve stayed higher (flatter) for about 500 extra rpm on the top end
Tuning that awful vtec spike would have realized much more useful midrange gains.... but without tuning, the car gained noticeable power as mentioned above.

When did you get a `01 ITR, Tord?
You need to post some pics of it for us.
Congrats with the new car. Guess you missed your old MR huh?!

At the least also invest in a VAFC or something as you can pick up an extra 10 whp or so on tuning it. So in total 15-20 whp extra should be possible. I picked up an additional 13 whp on a few hours of VAFC tuning on my ITR, on a similar list of mods, Mugen airbox, Hytech header and exhaust.
+2 The bolt on's you list can yield good gains. But tune it to really realize the potential. I like my Hondata, but look into the competitors (chrome, uber, etc.) Who tunes it and their experience makes a difference, but I got good results street tuning with Hondata, and saved a lot of cash (I have a wideband tho). Plus, it was a really fun process. But then again, I'm "Ill".

Well, I mentioned to the owner that I would reccommend something to lighten up the AF curve. The ECU will handle that stuff in closed loop, but in open loop I need something to rich the AF ratio.. I was thinking of Hondata, but that would require a P30 or similar ECU, and if Im not mistaking, parts of the harness would have to be swapped out - or maybe a OBD2->1 harness is enought. I already have a PLX wideband I use, but ultimately its up to the owner.. VAFC would be the easy way to go I guess
Thanks guys!

It's the other way round, ITR's run pig rich from factory and needs to be leaned out for max. power. Mine was around 11.5-12:1 dropping to 10:1 towards redline. Tuning for an AFR around 13.5:1 we got the gains mentioned.

when you say they run pig rich, i guess this is what explains the black soot /unburnt fuel? allover the back of my bumper/and right inside of my spoiler.
Strepto: I love your video of you on the autobahn...i watched it, then my brother came in while i was outside smoking and THEN my mom came in.. they both came out and started freakn out thinking it was me (thought i filmed myself.. recongnized the guages..) LOL..... jesus christ! im not leaving any videos open on my pc anymore... btw were you stock ??

Well, I wont say for sure, but in my experience from my own ITR.....
... the A/F was decent in closed loop, but as you say Pondus, rich in open loop, esp on the higher revs. However, adding a good intake would automaticly lean out that mixture, since the amount of fuel is constant, but there is added air, that problem would kinda help itself to a resolv. Now, I dont raelly know the numbers cos I havent tried it, so this is purely theoretic, but I hope you understand what I mean.

Yes I understand, but my A/F numbers where from when I was dyno tuning, after installation of I/H/E. And we had to go -10 to -15 on the VAFC to get it leaned out. Also another big advantage is you get to lower the VTEC x-over which made a huge impact on the midrange, gaining up to 15whp from 4500 to 6000. Easily worth the $$ as I see it.
No, not really, car has not been running since november 04, and when it get's back up again (soon, hopefully) it will be with a Power FC. But yes, last year it was running on the stock P73 and VAFC2.
