Convince me not to chrome my rims out.
I saw a bike last night with chrome rims.... it looked beautiful. Now I want chrome rims. I know they are heavier than stocks... but I figure I'll be selling this bike in a year or so and it will just add to the resale value. I was originally going to go all black accents (wheels, frame, swingarm) but that will not have the appeal that chrome will when I upgrade to a different bike.
Ok... opinions?

adding custom items to a bike almost never adds to its resale value, unless it is quality goods (ie a full akrapovic). Cosmetic enhancements should not be condsidered value added... everyones taste is different.
And it will make your rims heavier
... better off polishing the aluminum if you really need to look at your reflection in your rims

I say chrome wheels on bikes are only for stretched 'Busas.. but thats my $.02
Question: does the added weight of the rims screw with the gyroscopic motions of the wheels? (upsetting front end control)

I guess it depends how hard you ride the bike. I doubt you'll find anyone racing competitively on chrome wheels.

Hmmm... decisions decisions.
Good point about the resale value... I paid 5k for the bike and if i found the 'right' person I'm sure I could sell it as it stands for a good bit more. Polished frame and wheels would definetely set the bike off to be a real ***** getter, lol.
I just don't want to cross into the 'ghetto' side.

i personally like how chrome wheels look on bikes. along with the frame being polished, but i don't know if you want to take it that far. have you considered maybe just polishing the lip?
I really do agree with those who say "do what you want." But, seeing as how "what you want" is our opinions... i say DON'T chrome that stuff, it just looks flat out tacky.
I personally like a color accented lip with black wheels. I'm an accent color type.
In your case, bronze, or flat/semigloss black is the best look for a complimenting accent. Match the color of the lip to the swing arm- just not chrome.
edit:: meant to say chrome.

I think that he actually meant adding a layer of chrome to the wheels.
