Default auto Tranny fluid question

What kind of automatic tranny fluid should I use on a 94 Accord LX? Owner manual said Dexron-II, I only can find Dexron III in the store. Is Dexron III same as Dexron II? Should I stick with honda ATF? They are pretty pricy... and anyone know how many qtr i need?

I would just buy the ATF fluid from the Dealer. When I change mine it only costs me around $12. I usually buy 4 quarts, but check your owners manual, it should specify the drain and fill capacity.

dexron III is fine i have been using it for years with no problem and it is cheaper than honda atf ,,it takes 3 qts if you drain and refill

I tried Dextron III and it caused my tranny to have funky 3/2 downshifts. replaced it with honda atf and tranny is back to it's usual nice shifting self that I am used to.

Stick to HONDA GENUINE ATF. It's specifically made for Honda Transmission. I went to Pennzoil to do a transmission flush and the next day, my car woulnd't start. My engine had a hard time starting. Kind of looked like that the ATF Pennzoil was pretty thick. So I flushed it using Honda, and it was fine. Now, I have doubts of letting Pennzoil work on my car.

I asked numerous mechanic, and they highly recommend using Genuine specific ATF for ur car and not anything else. Never use domestic ATF w/ Japanese Tranny. It's too heavy for it.

I've been told the same thing. Only use Honda ATF. When I get my tranny fluid changed Honda ATF is always put back in.
