with the way your wheels heat up it sounds like a brake prob more than an axles, but what confuses me is that the wheels are hard to turn w/o pads on

maybe your axles are binding against your steering knuckles. take an axle out and see if your bearing dust sheild is torn up. usually you will hear them grinding when turning if this is the case but it wouldnt hurt to look.

maybe the reason it's hard to turn is your brakes got so hot it killed your wheel bearings? i dunno, long shot, but its just theory.

this happened to me on my 64 bus, which obvoiusly has a different braking system, but the wheel cylinders locked up in the front from overheating with bad (waterlogged) brake fluid in them. this could also be a brake booster issue, as in if you changed your booster recently and didn't adjust the spinner thing (i don't know the name) to your brake pedal.

if they got too hot then it definitly could have ruined your bearings. it happened to me before what happens is the grease in the bearings gets so hot that it leaks out leaving them dry and full of friction and heat which is no good

I think a proportioning valve can also cause the brakes to stick also

Master cylinder will do this as well. Do your brakes feel notchy at all when you aply the brakes?

brake booster, master cylinder, prop valve are all that's left that could cause sticking.

when i said bearings, i meant wheel bearings. the bearings for the hubs

its not the proportioning valve. if it was one back brake would be heating up
all Honda's have diagonial braking(rt frt lft rear lft frt rt rear)

not your axles if there is no noise turning

check the spring were your pads slide onto the calipers they could be rusty

yeah, i forgot about it being the back that locks up if it's the prop valve. yeah, i guess it could be your hubs/wheelbearings.

good luck
