jdm d15b swap
hey im planning on swapping a jdm d15b vtec into my 89 si hatchback. im going to use my stock si tranny. what else would i need for the swap? what ecu, p28? and will i have to convert to obd1? Thanks.
This motor is a lot like swapping in a d16z6. I would HIGHLY recommend you convert to obd-1 with this engine. Run the engine the way it was meant to be. Meaning convert it to obd-1 (d16z6 distributor, 4 wire o2, conversion harness from rywire.com, and p28 or p08 ecu.). Also, since the obd-1 jdm d15b injectors are the same size as the obd-0 d16a6 injectors, I would just keep the A6 injectors and if you do that you need to keep your resistor box. However, ugh, you don't have to run it obd-1, you can run it 0bd-0, but i am not going to tell you how to do that.
You need a complete head and block. Including complete intake manifold, exhuast manifold, all the other goodies. You can use the starter from your car now. You can also use your current alternator, but you are going to need to change the pulley from the obd-1 alternator, it has 1 more rib than an obd-0 alternator. The a/c bracket and a/c will fit onto the d15b vtec engine with no problem. You can take off the power steering pump from the d15b engine and sell it, as most likely your car does not have power steering.
I would get new motor mounts, get ones from a crx/civic si with a manual transmission. Also new spark plugs, wires, rotor and cap (from a d16z6). Get a new tensioner and water pump (from a 92-95 civic vx), and I am not sure which timing belt to use, but do replace it. The head from the d15b is identical to the z6 head and the block of the d15b is identical to a civic vx.
'90 -'91 Si transmission, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate.
Im out of ideas... oh yea, search. You will also find everything there.
