That's pretty much the perfect analogy right there.

New paint does not need time to cure...It can be washed the second after you pick it up, just do it properly. There is a simple article on washing on maaco's website, also a ton of car detailing forums. Do it right, otherwise that black will look swirled and scratched REAL QUICK.
Wait 30-45 days and put a good thorough wax job on it with a good quality wax...Do it every 3 months minimum to keep it looking like new. A good wax will make it better than when it came out of the paint booth.
Looks good to me!

thats such a load of bullshit. do not wash your car for the first month.
if i were you, i'd color sand it like crazy and buff it if you want it to look good

I was thinking of doing something like this too. I bought my hatch flatblack, and my dad hates it, and I wish I had paint on it too. Would they paint it Frost White, or do they have some gay shades that you have to pick from?
How much would a paint job (say a rating of 7) cost from a body shop other than ES?

I did finally wash the hatch about 2 weeks later, looked great! I cleaned it very carefully to avoid swirling. The smudge where the H would be is my palm print from closing the hood(it's a CF hood so I push it down to lock it) I didnt take any more pics, but it's due for another wash this weekend. I'll snap some more pics and post them up for anyone who's interested. Even though it's an earl scheib paint job, I think it looks very good. They even removed my license plates and stuff so it's black everywhere, pretty nice.
edit:
I'm not sure if you could pick your own color or not, I just picked the gloss black they had on display. I know you can choose for your own color with maaco though, but usually maaco wont warranty their work if it's already been primered etc..

shut the hell up
the most important lesson for a newb in any technical forum would be to never give advice unless you are sure you know what you are talking about.
you not only told him to go ahead and wash his car the first day he picked it up, but you insisted that he wax his car "every three months minimum."
great, so now there's chance of one foolish newb teaching another newb who asked for advice to foolishly wax his car every week.
i wonder how long it will take before that one stage maaco paint burns to nothing...
just because you scoured maaco's site and found info on a proper car wash doesnt mean that you can wash your car properly the day you pick it up. there's no such thing.
infact several friends and i have had a handfull of car's sprayed at the maaco in my neighborhood equipped with one of the newest booth's in the country and everytime we leave with a car they drop the spiel "don't wash it for.... dont wax it for...."
do you know why they tell us that every time? because its their job, not yours
