Default Tach wont work with MSD ignition

I still cant figure out my tach problem that ive been having for the past 3 months....

At first the tach would go all over the place at 3000RPM,, so I decided to run a DIRECT wire from the back of my stock tach to the distributor..
Now the stock tach is fine till 7000RPM then goes all over the place and frezes..

I have the MDS SCI PN 6300 Ignition mudule with a MSD cap and wire and a Crane PS91 Performance Ignition Coil

The motor RUNS 100% revs all the way up with no hesitation, even on the dyno it was fine since we where running the RPM's threw the Laptop.....

I dont know what t do anymore? I know the cluster was fine until I changed my complete motor set up!

PLEASE HELP!
Tyler

That happened to me on my 97 JDM B18C-R with MSD SCI, it turned out to be a bad ignitor.

Maybe it's the cluster. A lot of times stock tachs have a hard time reading a multiple spark discharge instead of a single spark discharge. It's happened to me before, you might be having the same prob

It still has an Ignitor even though you have an external coil.

It's # 8 on the diagram, listed as $ 177.87 from http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org

What dosent make any sense to me, is that My tach was 100% fine with my old set up..... ( Yes I was running stock ignition with no MSD)

So does this mean that my tach will never work properly unless I get a external one like autometer???

My car does this too. I let my friend with a type r borrow my dist. and it started doing it in his car. It is definetly the ignitor, both of us run MSD ignitions also.

yep i've had the same problem in the past only thing is after a while my car starts to hesitate w/ the tach jumping. But yea in your case sounds def. like an ignitor problem, i have a few laying around if you wanna buy one

Yep, it’s the ignitor. I have had this problem with a new distributor and just my shift light. Tack works fine without the shift light but will not work if it’s hooked up. So I swapped out the ignitor and the tack now works fine. I say try a new ignitor.

It's most likely a Bad Ignitor, how many miles do you have?

MSD tends to burn out Ignitors alot faster, is you MSD Box new or used?

I am the one that borrowed his distributor and the tach wouldnt work properly with his, then I replaced my igniter and it worked just fine.

If if still does this after you have changed out the ignitor, then it should be the MSD Box.

The MSD Box sometimes goes jumpy, you have to mail to MSD and they will fix it for $55.00 + Shipping.

So just uninstalled the Box and see if the problem still exist.
