clutch job on 89 civic sedan lx
hey guys, im looking for some input on how to do the clutch job on this perticular civic (as stated on the title bar). i tried doing a search but, all that i really saw was people asking, wha the best clutch to throw in would be. i've done my clutch on my 91 mr2... but i have no experience with my friend's 89 civic. is there an online manual or something that i can take a look at. also any tips would be great. thanks

Hey!Zeus
There's probably a post or two dealing with the 88-91 sedans, but for the most part, all dx/lx/cx models between '88-'00 will be the same.
I'm going to hoist my '90 LX's engine out tomorrow to put in a '93 ex's motor, as well as taken out a few trannies out of civics/tegs.
The main things that you do: unbolt all wires to the tranny, remove tires, unbolt the top & bottom of the shocks, unbolt the lower ball joint (to pull the axles from the tranny), will help to unbolt the axles from the spindles too (the more suspension bolts removed, the better), support the tranny with a hydralic jack, support the motor with a jackstand/wood/etc, unbolt the tranny, jimmy the tranny off of the motor/main shaft splines, drop it down, remove clutch, & reverse steps.
Theres not much to it, just takes time. Moreso if you don't have a nice breaker bar & air tools.

well we started my friends clutch at about 8:30pm friday night & finish it at about 11:30am saturday. it was easier compared to my mr2, since the tranny was a lighter, and it had less bolts to remove. it wouldnt have taken so long , had i not been left by myself to do most of the work.. but eh... its in now
