I am planning to be down in Australia from the second week of March until the first week in April and was looking for some input from some of the Australians. I am initially arriving in Cairns, but the rest of my schedule is pretty flexible. I'm thinking of trying to make the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide and would like a few days in Sydney and Melborne for some tourist stuff. I'm considering going to Alice Springs, but am not sure how much there is much to see or do up there. Going to Kangaroo Island also sounds interesting, but I don't know how easy it will be to get around on once I'm there. I was not planning on renting a car. As full as I'm making this schedule, I think I'll only be able to do Alice Springs or Kangaroo Island. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does any one there know of a dealership with an Integra Type R I can go look at, and maybe even drive? Thanks in advance

If you are looking for Honda Dealers in Australia, go here:
http://www.honda.com.au/NR/HondaCars...oc.asp&chan=db
Which model Type R are you looking to drive? DC2 or DC5 (DC5 - Dressed up Type S)? Most dealers have DC5s that you can test drive, DC2 Rs are getting pretty rare. Just remember when your here to drive on the other side of the road

I think not many ppl has the DC2 for test drive now.... go try the DC5, apparently it should be a lil bit better than TypeS in NA coz we still got the recaros, LSD and also the MOMO steering wheel.

Thanks for your input guys. The car I'd really like to see or drive is the actual Type R. I think that's the DC2. Its the the latest one from Japan that is based on what they call the RSX here (not the Type S though). It's been mentioned that there might be one at or near the Clipsal 500 to look at.
Another question I have for someone down under is I'm looking to go to either Alice Springs or Kangaroo Island after Adelaide. Is there really much to see in alice Springs? Is there a good way to get around Kangaroo Island without renting a car? Any input would be much appreciated as some of guides I have only have a little info.

Dude, that means your getting here a week (or so ) too late and the wrong state. You'll just miss the F1 GP in Melbourne, on the 1st-3rd of march. Of course the V8-Supercars will be there. Then 2 weeks later, The Clipsal 500 in Adelaide (15th - 17th).
Can't help you with Kanga Is. Never been there. Only went to Sth Aust once, and that was just for a long weekend when the F1-GP was there about 6 years ago.
Look here:- http://www.touradelaide.com/
As for the Alice.......Well there's Ayres Rock (sounds like - AIRS ROCK) and a heap of other Aboriginal stuff.
Look here:- http://www.ntholidays.com/nt_centre_ct.asp
It's a big place......You may want to hire a car. Even if it just a couple a days in that town, Fly somewhere, hire another car..Blah Blah.
Luck bastard..... Have fun.

Thanks for the help.
I was sad I was going to miss the F1 because I'd love to go to one. Unfortunately, I have no control over the timing.

Does Australia get the WRX Sti and Mitsu EVO VII? If so, anyone have some ideas where I can check them out in Adelaide (be there during Clipsal 500), Melbourne, or Sydney?
Also, any of you been on the Ghan? Looks like it would be interesting.

Australia gets WRX STi but no Evo7. Evo VI Makinen yes, but good luck finding one at a dealer.
Also, DC5 is the RSX/latest Integra chassis code. Australia gets a Type R but the output is only equal to the RSX Type S (i.e. not JDM 220PS levels).

Thanks DC2#309. Melbourne is one of the places I'm planning to stop, so checking out the EVO and STi would be great. If you'll take me, I'll buy you a couple of pints afterwards
Right now I'm looking at probably getting in around March 22 or 23 and being there until around the 26th or so. I'll let you know more about the dates once I get them finalized and we'll see if any of the days I'm there will work for you.

You guys only get a derated version of the DC5 Type R huh? Are there any other major differences between your version and the JDM version? If I remember correctly your DC2 version was pretty close to our version with some minor differences (wheels, seats, etc. if my memory is correct). I wonder if they bring the DC5 Type R to the states they would do the same and not add that much HP to the Type S. Of course power alone is not what makes a Type R a Type R.

Hi Heckler,
I haven't driven the JDM nor Aussie version of the DC5 ITR, but I know ppl who own both. (Well, one guy owns one and another guy owns the other, to clarify.)
Outside of sharing the American Type S engine (200bhp) :-
The Aussie one has full JDM interior and body kit but does not get the 17" wheels. Instead, it has the 16" RSX wheels and also the same 300mm brakes from the RSX Type S (shared with S2000 I believe) hence no Brembos.
The LSD and 6 speed box remains though.
Also, there have been some questions as to the suspension settings; I doubt Australia gets the same harshness a JDM DC5R would get. Still decent though...
Cheers...

I wonder how close to the Australian car our DC5 Type R will be if it ever makes it here. Of course if the EVO and Sti make here without being too detuned, I hope Acura/Honda realizes they are going to have some serious competition and don't give us a bum steer. Of course every time I've said this about Honda in the past, they've proved me wrong.

DC2#309, It now looks like I'll be in Melbourne from the 21st throught the 23 or 24th. Let me know if any of these days work for you, which days are better, and if you still want to get together. Thanks again for the offer.

I'm here in Adelaide right now at the Clipsal. DC2#309, I'll give you a call soon. The race is pretty cool and so far I've seen one Type R here racing. The other cool cars to see are the EVOs and STis. That EVO may be pretty hard to turn down if its comes to the states in a potent form.
