Default S2000 Driveline/swap Q

I was looking onto building a Caterham Super 7 replica and i'm looking for decent engine/transmission combo. I was just curious if any Honda motors other than the one in the S2000 fitted up to the S2000 6-speed transmission. If anyone has any info on swapability of parts from the S2000 and others in the Honda line could you drop me a line?

Well it is gonna cost a lot of money to swap an s2000 with rwd into any non-rwd vehicle... and besides that plenty of custom fabrication... so basically you will never do that.. but it is possible to use a k-series 5 or 6 speed transmission to an s2000 engine and make it fwd... rarely done but completely possible...

Let me restate that i'm going to be building a Caterham replica. Basically a tube frame chassis car. I need a motor/transmission to put into it. I've looked at Nissan 240SX's, Mazda Miata's, then i stumbled across the S2000. I was just curious if anyone knew what series the motor was and if other motors of the same series would bolt up. So mounting points anything like that has nothing to do with it. Figure a 240hp S2000 engine in a 1300 lb car with a 6 speed. I estimate 0-60 in the mid 3's.

it is an F series, but is unlike any other F series. no other F or H series will bolt up, you would be stuck with teh f20c or f22c to go with that drivetrain.

That seems like a rather expensive option. It would be sweet for sure, but I would think a SR20DET would be more cost-effective. Either way that will be a badass little car.

I thought about that, but i ruled it out because a forced induction motor would be a bit larger around the sides and require some frontal area to be taken up by an intercooler. First i'm not sure if it would fit within the cowling and second there's not a lot of space for the radiator and intercooler to bleed off the heat. The S2000 has the dimentions i'm more looking for as well, slightly shorter and narrower. Perhaps just a normal SR20DE but it would take quite a bit of tuning to get it up near an S2000's performance. Just all my opinions

I know the car will be light and won't really need a whole lot of torque, but a 944 or 968 engine would be really nice. The 968 had about the same HP as the s2000, but with more torque and lower rpms.

Ever thought about a turbo motorcycle engine? Small and powerful.

Hayabusa engine all the way. Much lighter than any other engine choice. Don't know much about it, but a lot of people are building 7s with them. Any car based engine will be pretty heavy, but I think an S2000 engine would be a very good choice. It's newer than the other options, and pretty reliable. Even more reliable than it would be in an S2000 given how much less weight you need to push. The engine/tranny combo isn't light though.

I don't know for sure, but I believe you can bolt a K series motor to the tranny. It might not be a bad idea if you want to go completely ***** out, but an F20 or F22 is the logical choice. It might weigh a bit more than a K and have a slightly lower power potential, but they're relatively dirt cheap. They're practically the only powerful Honda engine that doesn't easily swap into a Civic.

caterham = RWD

and id go with a motorcycle engine, turbo hayabusa would be retarded fast.
