Default question about clutch slave

my clutch is sqeaking and the dealer told me its the slave for the clutch. I took a few pictures to go along with the question I have.

the slave:

my question is if the rubber piece covering the metal part should be connected to the where the metal piece goes in or can it be loose like mine is? It looks lubed up becuase I just sprayed it with white grease, but only helps the sqeak temporarily.

Is the grease drying up because it isn't covered?
Should I just replace the slave? If so, are there any good articles online? (I don't have much experience working on my car)
Any other suggestions would be great! I'm so sick and tired of that sqeak.

Sorry if this post is confusing!

Andrew

the sqeak could be coming from a number of places. Did you try and lube between the slave cylider and the fork? There are a lot of posts on this try searching around some.
