just took a ride in a ls/vtec hatch omg i want it!!
well i work with a guy that has a 13 sec hatch with ls/vtec its awesome i just rode in it for my first time tonight we went on the highway, from the top of the onramp to the bottom we hit 90 and then he nailed it to the outside lane (no traffic) and in no time the speedometer was berried this is the fastes civic i have ever been in!
I have driven in an ls/vtec hatch before and I do agree it is pretty sweet, but I have been told that it is not a good idea to go ls/vtec unless you build the engine.
i just ordered a built ls/vtec setup to replace my blown b16 so i am VERY looking forward to it. and as far as building the building the ls/vtec setup first, that is pure bs. a budy of mine slapped an internally stock b18a block onto his 95 del sol and the car has since been thro a year and a half of some seriously hard driving and not even a hint of trouble.

Someone on the board has posted why Ls/Vtec isnt a good idea. http://www.phatwhippinCRX.20m.com here is the site, I sugguest you read it. or if you dont...I highly sugguest you 'build' an Ls/Vtec ...its only a matter of time
phatwhippincrxs site led me astray but if u look at a lsvtec its putting down a great time it can be a sturdy motor if built correctly and maintaind its not for a person who knows jack **** about motors i myself am still debating lsvtec turbo or the ls turbo im still leaning away from teh vtec becuace of the pure fact that its a daily driver and ill be goin back to school and wouldnt have the time to fix it everyother week cause its like everyotehr week u gotta fix somethin
phatwhippincrxs his got a b20 in his crx now he is always in http://www.superhonda.org but they are upgrading now

hey Twitch-
I know who you are talking about. My setup will eat his up in a couple months once its complete. Say Hi to Alex from Jeff for me!

KROW, all the ls/rs/gs/ whatevers, as long as they are not a GSR, are the same engine. B18a/b18b depending on the year.
B18A = 90-93 RS/LS/GS
B18B = 94-01 RS/LS/GS
As for the stock bottom end not being up to the task, I tend to agree. It can be made rev-safe relatively easily. Putting in a Z10 block girdle is pretty much all that needs to be done. The r/s ratio's not that much worse than a B18C block, 1.54 instead of 1.58. B18C blocks can take the revs because they have a block girdle.

"no he has a b16, his name is bobby"
Wow, thanks Meg
Ya don't hate me I guess...... IM me next time you're on....
And yeah, B16 for now. Eventually, yeah a B20..... blame that all on RioNinja however.... he introduced me to it..... and I've seen a CRVTEC in real life and my jaw hit the floor.

damn you guys, are you sure you are not just quoting this stuff out of your ***? we have a pretty good size camp of b20 and ls/vtec guys here in my area and no one has had any sort of probs. my buddy has an internally stock b20/vtec and he shifts at 8500. now you all say maybe just a matter of time, well its been a year for him and no boom. i think you all tend to worry a bit too much.
you can rev past 7500 with oil squirters.
ls/vtecs generally only have a bad rap from people who have just heard about problems. there are few who have actual firsthand experience negative things.
myself, i know of nobody with a bad experience, i only know of happy hybriders. i'm starting to piece together my ls/vtec. i'm picking up shotpeened ls rods, srp pistons @ 11.5:1 CR, all new bearings/gaskets/hardware, type r water and oil pumps, and a few other little things. the head will be stock so i won't be revving past 8k, and once i get cams i'll have upgraded to eagle rods and probably higher compression pistons...so i think the setup i've got planned should be excellent and quite reliable. i can't wait to get it into my crx.

here, here, i bought an ls/vtec to rebuild and since i bought it all i seem to see is neg comments about them. i too think you shouldn't be so quick to say there crap, when you've never owned one or if you have owned one and drove it like a raped ape, then complained when it blew up. i think they make great power, and besides there different, don't know if thats good but i like it. sorry a little venting
what makes the ls/vtec so unreliable? i know a kid in town putting one into his 90 civic. he is always trying to be better than me. so he is doing an ls/vtec swap.
http://www.phatwhippincrx.20m.com/custom4.html read all that it has its points but then again its a very good setup when done right ive seen it done half assed and it still was a nasty car the head bolts had to be tightened every other week other than that it was nasty lsvtec turbo 11.3s in a 93 bubble back
Yeah....... when its built CORRECTLY, it is sooooooo ******* bad ***...
But eventually..... everyone who doesnt go about it the right way will learn the hard way. Maytake a month, may take a year, may take longer...
but an improperly built frankenstein is asking for trouble, period.
