h22 type s cam question
my friend has a jspec h22 in his accord although the guy he bought it off of blew the top end from going from 3rd to 2nd gear at high rpms. When they rebuilt it they put the usdm cams. For an all motor project he wants to know if putting a good set of aftermarket cams would do him better then putting back the type s cams. which is better.thanks
Any aftermarket camshafts are better than the USDM ones. The Type S camshafts are supposedly similiar to many companies Stage 1's. If he was going to upgrade I would tell him to go Stage 2 camshafts.

That is correct, definitely recommended.

Higher lift cams usually mean more duration. Longer duration = the need for more compression (you will lose compression). If you go stage 2's, consider swapping the pistions out or at the very least a thinner head gasket. At a minimum I would suggest an 11:1 comp ratio for stage 2's. Ideally, a 11.5 or 12:1 would take the most advantage and still allow you to run pump gas (93 oct.).
Just remember to get it tuned.
There is a company called "Mahle" that makes a coated skirt piston that you can apparently just drop right in your block without re-sleeving. You might want to do some research on that as I haven't had any experience with them as of yet.
Good luck with whatever you do.
P.S. swap your automatic timing belt tensioner for a manual one out of an H23.
