Default are these springs and retainers good enough?

Hola fella's. Finally got some crower stage 2 cams for my 91 Teg LS............the search was long, I was patient, under 2k of use, $250 shipped :yay:

Now, in my search for a springs and retainers upgrade, I've come across the set noted below............your comments on the veracity of these components holding up to the pressure of the new cams is appreciated.

Cams: Crower Stage 2
Springs & Retainers: 1999 B18C Springs & Retainers, max 8700 RPM

Thanks!!

I would get some crower springs and retainers, like an extra 200 bucks or so.

Okay, this is almost funny. I got the same response on HAN.net "I hear crower stuff is pretty good." This I know. My question is simple. Here it is again.

My stock B18a springs and retainers will not last with Stage 2 cams.

Will the springs and retainers out of a b18c with a max rpm of 8700 be sufficient?

The max RPM for the b18a is 6500. The b18c is 2200 rpm higher. This does not mean that these springs and retainers can necessarily handle the extra work of the stage 2 cams, just that they can handle 2200 more rpm.

I'm not looking for suggestions for springs and retainers, just opinions on whether or not the springs and retainers out of a B18C can handle the extra work load of Stage 2 cams.

Thanks!

I have crower stage 2 (403) cams in my ls as well. I have been usiong the stock springs and retainers for over 4 months with no problems. Some say you need to upgrade and some say that with the stock revlimit you will be fine keeping the stock valvetrain. If you are going to get the upgraded springs and ret. i would just go with crower for good measure.

Crap in a bucket. Just realized that the cams I got are 404's, NOT 403's, curses!! These are Stage 3 Crower cams............"full race"....................foiled. I don't even think I can pass smog with these!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Probably have to re-sell them and keep looking for 403's. Dangit, too many late nights reading too many small font threads.

To be honest i think i remember readin somewhere that the B18c valves/springs/retainers....etc wont fit in a B18A/B head. I was looking in to doing the same thing with my crane cams.
