dam knockin sound
not to bad but be sure of what your buying. Only buy engines from reputable dealers. It immpossible to tell the milage on used engines. you could rebuild your bottom end for less than that w/ forged everything
Are you sure it's not just valve train noise??? Or is it deeper sounding? But rod bearings are easy to replace, why replace the entire engine when you can get the rod/main bearing codes and replace them w/ factory....

yea thanx but imma stay with my a-spec motor.. pepe is right why spend that much on a j-spec stock motor when i can build my gsr for more power.. but thats my thought tho.. thanx guys.. for 1400 i can get racing rods over size pistpons and a bore..
Bit of a thread hijack but my friend has this loud "putt putt putt" sound too, and it goes up with revs. The only thing is the sound is definitely from the head, almost under the valve cover (not valve tap). Is that still possible if it is a spun bearing?
yes, the knock will resonate all the way up thru the head. It will be a deeper sound, unlike a valve tick. Try pulling that spark plug wire off the cylinders one at a time and keep the engine revved until you here the noise go away. That would be the cylinder you can focus on.
