best motor to swap in an ef
just bought an ef hatch as was wondering what everyone suggested swapping into it ? i have never done a swap before so i was wondering what all i needed?
What are your goals? Daily driver, weekend warrior, or full race car? What kind of budget are you willing to spend on your car? Can you afford not having your car running for a few days or even a week or two? I suggest doing a lot of research before diving in.
well i already have a daily driver, i just bought this ef shell for like 75.00 and was wanting to make it as fast as i can im really not on a budget because i would have to save up for anything i do so i guess whatever is the fastest. i would also like to know what all i would need for the complete swap into my car like i said never done as swap b4 i took my motor out when i rebuilt it and put it back in

best motor for an EF...any b-series motor or some b-series hybrid i.e., LSVTEC or CRVTEC
there is no cutting to put these motors in....
h-series... cutting is involved with this swap.
k-series...don't know if u cut or not, but i hate welding mounts...so until there is a bolt in mount kit i will stay b-series.

i think u have to weld part of that mount kit. im personally going to stay away from those until someone creates a bolt in for the k-series. even thought my car is a track only car, i would still prefer a bolt in kit.

I've never done a swap into an ef but i have done a b18c in to a eg and ek, both are simple alls it takes is the right parts for the ef you will need shift linkage/axles/wiring harness converter(obd0 to 1or2 go boomslang for this great product and cheap) and mounts. I would put a cable tranny b16a in it.
From what I've learnt, and been told, b series is easiest. I'm doin H22 at the mo. Heaps of cutting and welding. I work as a welder/fabricator so I'm doin all the work myself. Helps keep cost down. Would hate to think how much I'd be paying for someone else to do all this.

the K as well as the H are physically too big to install without cutting/welding. There will never be a bolt in mount kit for either. Go B series

For the B18A you'll need an aftermarket mount kit and shift linkage: HASport or HCP are the top 2 brands, most others are just cheap knock-offs of those and tend not to fit as well or last as long.
Depending on the model EF you have, you might need to swap to DX/Si front hubs to fit the B series axles as well as convert to MPFI if it's not a Si model. If you're starting from scratch and don't have a cabin or engine harness, get the Si harnesses if possible to make things a little easier. There's tons of info on this swap here and elsewhere on the net. It's pretty straight forward given that you get the right parts.
