Any G3 Integra owners ever modified rear speakers brackets?

Any G3 Integra owners ever modified rear speakers brackets?
I just purchased some speakers that won't fit the plastic brackets in the rear side panels. 6½" round speakers are supposed to fit, but the MB Quart RCE216's I just purchased are too big. The basket design won't allow the speaker to sit in the mounting bracket.
Does anyone have any experience modifying these brackets or fabricating a replacement bracket for slightly larger speakers?
I really wanted to install these things today.

nice job!!! 
if you want to make a better seal, get some foam tape and put it along the edge of the speaker before you mount it so there aren't any leaks between the speaker and the mounting plate.
