Default stock resonator removal

I've read about people removing the resonator on the stock intake and was wondering if its the box in the front fender. I've installed a drop in K&n air filter and would like to try what people are saying about modifying the intake. If this is what's supposed to be removed, do you leave the connecting pipe open so the air comes in 2 places? I hope someone knows what I'm talking about and can help. If this doesn't improve performance, I'm going to order an AEM CAI. Thanks.

Yep it is that box in the fender, and you can leave the pipe in if you want or fabricate some sort of piping to the bumper to suck in colder air.

I removed the resonator this morning and just got back from a test drive. It made a suprising difference with peppier acceleration and a slight change in sound. Now I'm wondering if an AEM CAI would make a much bigger difference. I know it owuld be better but would it be worth the money?

Before you consider AEM consider going on ebay and finding a "no name" intake like obx or HP racing or something.. When it comes to cold air intakes name doesn't really mean anything.. It's a simple item that any old jo schmoe could even create on his own.. Just take the resonator out and put in some 50-99$ CAI and make sure to put the splash guards in all their correct places because if you get your filter wet you will get moisture in the engine and kill it.. Not a good thing to happen in the rain on a bridge in traffic!
