Default EG hatch canadian version engine question (transfered from EF wrong forum :-P )

ok so my brother got this HB and it has the a single cam engine with a throttle body the size of a quarter literally. i dont know the engine code since i havent really looked at it much but he wants to know what other IM he can put there thats bigger, or if he has to change his whole head or if the engine is just not worth it no big plans for this car just a cruiser' also is it mini-me worthy??

oh it must be a vx. its either the d15z1 or d15b8. your gonna be better off swapping a different motor. does it have the vtec e?

If it doesn't have a tach then it's a CX (D15b8). And definently not worth working with the block. It's only an 8-valve engine, so adding another IM won't be worth it either. He's got the slowest of them all (70hp). I've got the same thing.

Edit Again - I'm wrong, because the Canadian CX's have the same engine as the DX. But read the engine code on the block.

you can do a mini me but he will have horribly low compression. so honestly that motor is crap but the car it self has some potential.

the whole engine has to go man. Unless he wants to race Geo Metros. I believe they have 3 cylinders and 60 hp. Of course they probably weigh less too.

Canadian CXs had a D15B7. 16 valve, 1.5L, Non VTEC. Should have had a 56mm T/B. The tach is not a give-away, as neither CXs or DXs had tachs here.

Regardless, Mini-me's seem to be popular on most boards. Why not search out a JDM D15Z? Probably just as cheap, and more reliable.

so it does have 16valve
guess i will have to wait till he gets around to opening it up and see hearin this is a 60HP engine im quessing that AC compressor will kill the engine right well he dont care bout it
if it were mines i would swap it or do wut he suggested he would d this mornin but iono
so if its 16 valve minime would be kinda easy to do otherwise he need 4V recessed piston ?

If he doesn't really care about going fast then he should probably just stick with the motor he has. The best way for us to give you advice would be to know the engine code. Next time you get the chance, check it and let us know.
