water pump question (replacement)

Default water pump question (replacement)

do i have to replace my water pump when change my timing belt?? I have a 97 lx, i'm about to do maintenance on and i was wondering why they sell kits with a timing belt and water pump and all the drive belts together.

you dont have to but its always nice to do some proper maintaince on your car !

They sell it all toghter like that because you have to take out the timing belt and drive belts to get at the water pump. Its kinda one of those while you have everything off why not take off anther 4 bolts and do the pump things.

You should really do it all at the same time due to the amount of work involved in doing just the timing belt. its right there at that point.

you dont really have to, but if your water pump goes out, you have to take the whole timing belt setup out and reinstall it. Dealerships will always replace both at the same time, or atlease thats what everyone else is going to tell you.

You really should change them both at the same time, it just makes sense, besides there both on the list for the 90k service intervill

^^^^If only that was true. The Honda dealership that I got my hatchie from only did the timing belt. I would have gladly paid the extra $50 for the water pump while they where in there, but they already did the TB the day before I called them to do both at the sametime. Bastards where just mad because I made them do it for free before I would by the car .
