Default Are hood pins really necessary?

Just ordered a CF hood from Andy at Bodykits NW

Some people tell me that pins are absolutely necessary, some say the hoods strong enough to hold up on its own...

Which should I do? I hate the look of the pins.

Are you kidding me?

I don't care if they look like **** or not, I'm not going to own a carbon hood without them, it's not worth the risk...

I would rather have ugly hood pins than have my new CF hood fly off breaking my windshield and causing an accident.

I would get them.. but thats just me..

my really good friend had a carbon fiber hood on his prelude w/no hood pins.. and was on the highway and it came lose and flew up into his windshield. he lost the windshield, hood, and had a big *** dent in the top of the car from the hood hitting it..

it wasnt just bc he didnt have hood pins.. but if he woulda, the hood wudnt have popped off and flown into his windshield.

true, but the cable handle was broken too, and I already had the pins, and was too lazy to go to the dealership to get a new cable and latch handle. oh well.. i still like it.. it only took about an hour to do everything..

I drove the first couple of weeks without hoodpins and noticed very little fluttering of my BKNW hood at freeway speeds, but I would definately suggest using them...cause you never know. They keep me from worrying about wheather or not the hood will fly up. I use these small hoodpins from Moroso: http://www.behrents.com/Mercha...=PROD

Very low key...I even painted mine to make them less visible.

Can you show a closeup of the pins? The pic on that link you listed shows pins that arn't the kind I've seen...

honestly, it all depends on the hood
I had a VIS hood on my EMI for 2+ years w/o pins and it was fine

Now, I just got a CF hood for my teg and it was sketching me out when I was on the freeway so I decided to be safe and get the hood pins even though I dont really like the way they look. Trust me, u dont want your hood comming off when your on the freeway

So will your car when you hood pop's and smacks your windsheild and roof. And you'll be quite the pissy individual when it does happen (it doesnt happen all the time..some people get hard core hoods..but not all are made ***** of steel) but better safe then sorry. dont listen to the retards that say no. save yourself a future headache, busted windsheild and roof.

HOOD PIN IT!

you'll hate the look of the hood even more if it flies open, folds over and hits your windshield. And what if even something more remote happens, like it flies off and ends up thru someone windshield decapitating them?

it might be fine, it might not, do you really want to take that chance?

i hated hood pins so i raised the hood with washers.. all the air that would make it pull up goes through the vent
