Default OBD1 H22a into OBD2a civic swap.

Im using an OBD1 engine and ecu from a prelude (H22a)

My car is a non v-tec civic currently using OBD2a.

If I use a conversion harness so I can plug in my OBD1 ecu will it work?

Can I just modify the connecters on the OBD2a engine harness to match the OBD1 engine and ecu.

Im guessing Ill have to add the sensors for the vtec and knock.

What else am I missing? It cant be that easy?

none of the plugs on the civic harness will match, you're gonna hafta cut and splice. use prelude plugs on the civic harness and add/extend necessary wires

I did an OBD1 H22a into a non vtec OBD2 shell.

- I'm pretty sure you can reuse the shell harness and modify as needed.
- Yes a conversion harness will be needed and will work (I don't recommend doing it the long way by manually mapping every wire, it can be done but why bother when you can just plug and play with a coversion harness)
- As mentioned, you'll need to create a new sub harness for anything needed by the new engine/ECU (VTEC, knock sensor etc) and run it back through the firewall to the ECU.

It's pretty straight forward, it's just tedious.

Whats the best way adapt the harness?

I read somewhere that if I cut the harness, the resistance in the wires could change and affect the readings for the ecu.

Is this true?

if you solder and shield it well enough from the elements then it shouldn't be a problem. Hasn't been w/ mine for the last couple years.
