Car dies when a/c is on at dead stop. HELP!
Ok i know this is not a civic, but the accord forums suck, no one ever responds, and its still a honda and they all work the same way pretty much. So please help me. My girlfriends 94 accord ex automatic dies when the a/c is on and we are braked at a stop light or something. I think she has a broken motor mount because the car and motor shake when we are stopped. But would this broken mount cause the car to die when the a/c is on at a stop? Its fine when we are rolling because the rpms are up.
Thanks in advance.

Does it have a tach? It sounds like the RPMs are dropping real low, causing it to die under load. I'd check your IACV first thing.
the RPMs do drop real low. Like they drop to 400-500 rpms when in park with a/c on then when we put it in drive and hold the brake they drop so low that it dies. Would the IACV be broken? How would I test it?
Dies it run rough otherwise?
Try checking your compression. My problem like this was the result of a burnt valve.

That's just a band-aid and doesn't fix the real problem.
Without the helms in front of me, I don't know the test procedure for the valve. You may want to just pull it off and see if it's all gunked up.

I know it's not a honda, but my wifes cavalier was having the exact same problem. Turned out to be the fan motor. Replaced and all is good. The RPM's dropping in Park and dying in gear was exactly what her's was doing.

the fan motor dying I find hard to believe that would cause the engine to fail. That needs to be explained to me. The motor mount issue would not cause the engine to die, and there could be many reasons the motor is shaking. But for the issue at hand I would go with the previous statements about possible the IACV and the kid that said to adjust the throttle cable is just asking for more problems.
Im having the same prob with my '97 DX mine however idles ok when the AC if off but immediatly after I turn the AC on it starts to idle really low rpms almost to whre it wants to die. Since this is only happening when the AC is on could it be that my AC compressor is going out? and also my AC has a been coming out alot warmer lately in the last few days any help would me appreciated.
sorry for somewhat of a hijack.

****Just a thought**** (if everything else checks out)
Could the a/c compresor belt be on so tight that when you turn the a/c on it put's so much drag on the other belts that it die's. Or the a/c compresore it self be defective, after so many years

Take the IACV off and clean it with carb cleaner or Brake cleaner check for tares in the valve. There are 2 different style. (1) has a rod type valve, (2) has a plastic spring looking diaphram, sometime the diaphram will tare. Then try adjusting the idol screw. If that doesn't work, adjust the cable.
There is no problem with engine mounts here. It shakes because the idle is low and it's a four cylinder... that's it. It seems to me like the IACV is clogged like everyone else has stated. It's easy to check and clean... do that first and see if it helps.

So you guys think I should check my IACV as well?

well I also think a motor mount is broken because when it shifts gears, my god it shifts hard. Feels like there is a hardcore torque converter in it. Either broken mount or something wrong with tranny.
