A friend of mine is having tranny problems with his 2000 Prelude. He is considering swapping the tranny from a 4th gen Lude into his car. Is this possible, are the trannys compatible accross the 4th gen and the 5th gen. Any info. you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

why not take it back to the dealer?

 

It's compatible, I've had it on my 5th gen for a month. The gear ratios are shorter and the top speed cuts out at 136 I believe. If your boy's car is completely stock, take it back to the dealer like the man sez

 

Thanks guys. His car is not stock and he is out of warranty at 42K miles. He had the shift fork replaced last summer, but the new one only lasted about 7K miles. After a lenghty discussion with the service manager and general manager, he is out of luck and they are not willing to do anything. They told him $1350+ to replace the fork and check the tranny for any other problems.

So, my buddy can pick up a 4th gen. Lude tranny for $650. As this being the cheaper option, he was wondering about the compatibility. And yes, he would also like the more aggressive gear ratios. As long as it bolts up and works, I think he'll be just fine.

Actually, the car is mine. The dealership denied the claim after extended confrontation. It sucks. Thanks for the help!
