you want the basecoat/clearcoat......realize that you are only buying the basecoat for the 227 a gallon price. you will still need to purchase a quality ppg paint reducer, a clearcoat/catalyst at the minimum.....3 qts of basecoat should be more then enough

ppg paint reducer???? whats that???

i thought all i need is basecoat and clearcoat???? so i'd order the basecoat for $227 or i could just get 3 qtrs for $194, and then 2 qtrs of clear coat for $xxx. btw, does the brand of clearcoat matter???

brand of clear is not really a big concern...but most clears are going to use a catalyst/hardener that has to be mixed with the clearcoat before it will harden...just another added cost.

ppg paint reducer....or thinner...you can't just spray the paint as it comes out of the can...

You "could" use laquer thinner, but i wouldn't...not after spending 200 bucks on paint.....

you gotta follow the ratio on the container. it will tell you how much to add to x amount of paint. try to local auto repair store.

Usually when you buy a paint you should stick with that line for all your products, base coat and clear coat reducers and hardeners. They will give you a sheet that tells you the ratio at which to mix the paint and reducer also the clear coat and hardener. My advice for you since this is your first time, is make sure you have really good prep work before you spray, and take your time and do it right the first time. Put at least 4 coats of clear on because you are going to have alot of orange peel and need to sand the car down to make it smooth again.
