2001 Honda Prelude when starting the car I hear a fairly loud click coming from engine/transmission?
Hi, I'm a car dealer and I was taking a look a 2001 Prelude earlier. When starting the car I heard a click coming from the engine/transmission. It was fairly loud and the engine did start right up. What do you guys think it was?
It was a 2001 Prelude (silver) manual transmission with only 31k miles on it.
I was going to buy it for $7800 but I was afraid the engine might go bad or something. The engine was real dirty and there were even cob webs everywhere.

single click? before the engine fires up? right after? as it's turning over?

7800 is pretty cheap for a 2001 so you have very good suspictions on it it could be the starter but not sure i would take it to a macnice but me i would stay a way to cheap something is wrong

Yes it was a single click and the engine did turn over. Apparently there's a warranty on the internals of the engine and transmission.
But the catch is also the that the whole car is repainted with a single stage Maaco style paint job.

hmm, i guess it would depends on where the click is happening. my initial guesses are starter and/or flywheel. doesn't make any noise at idle? during driving?

Maybe need valve adjustment or auto tensioner went bad.

I wouldn't buy the car... It seems suspicious.
