here is the prob: when i'm driving in any gear, if my foot is more than 25% depressed on the gas pedtal, i'll get this weird knocking sound. i think it's coming from my motor.. the more pressure i put on the pedal, the louder the sound gets. what could be causing this? btw, it's a stock 92 civic CX motor. (d15b7)

 

sounds like an exhaust leak. the exhaust manifold usually cracks on those engines ...just take off the top heat shield and see if teh noise is comming from a crack under there...

 

could also be knocking, when your timing way off, it could be that with pedal depressed timing is advanced it starts knocking. how is your timing? are you losing power? get a strobo and check it out, if it is knocking and your driving with it for too long your engine is gonna die!

I've had the same thing in my 94cx for about 5+ years now (it's d15b8 BTW). I don't know what the **** it is, but it bugs the hell out of me. I've adjusted timing/valve-lash, and replaced cap/rotor/plugs/wires/fuel filter/pcv, and it never really made a difference. It usually only does it when the motor is cold, and doesn't always do it either. I don't understand why it's so random. I've had a mechanic tell me it was the valvetrain, but he wasn't even sure. It kinda sounds like marbles in the crank case...

I don't loose power when it happens though, so I don't think it's detonation...

 

maybe check your oil levels. i have hear a knocking noise from my car as well, and usually it means its out of oil. oh i also have a blown head gasket. haha, so i dont know if its the same sound. good luck

 

Did you throw a piston out of the block? I did. and about 5 other people I know... damn D series! haha

I blew it up on purpose though.. untuned.. and I raced a testarosa... hahaha lol

mine does it too, had 2 D15B8s in this hatch and they both made that noise, the one in it now has 50K on it and the internals are in perfect condition, so i'm not too sure what it could be..maybe just a noise this motor makes..who knows

dude, this is exactly how my motor is. it really does sound like marbles!!

that **** bugs me too
any sound other then my vtec or intake bugs me!
i need to make my engine bay sound proof so it doesnt bother me anymore

 

sounds like a bent conrod to me...

 

The weird thing is my car has been doing this for years. Sometimes it will go for a month or two without making a single noise. Then all of the sudden it does it every single time the engine is cold. The motor has never lost any of it's performance (if you can call it that), and it actually feels stronger now than when I first bought it. The D15B8 is a very strange motor indeed. I'll just keep on taking good care of it until the gives me the "go ahead" on a motor swap...
