if you take your headliner out, you can get to the sunroof motor and tracks. in the middle of the motor is an allen-wrench shaped hole, and you can use one to turn the motor and manually close the sunroof. if that doesn't work, check your rails and make sure they aren't bent. it may be easier to check them if you take the whole sunroof out. you'll need a #10 socket and an extra set of hands so it doesn't fall on you - it's heavy!
we completely swapped mine out because we had an extra sunroof, just switched the roof panels.

good advice. actually, if it's a crx (i don't know about hatches, never had a hatch si) you don't even need to take out the headliner to manually close the sunroof. the crank hole is under that grey plastic cap in the middle of the headliner.
also, try opening it somewhat to check to see that nothing's in there. check between the roof and the car, check on the inside of the tracks, and grease the tracks up a little while you're at it because they need to get done sometimes.

ok well i wnet and greased up the other side with w d 40 and cleaned out the black stuf in there and now its doing the same thing again. one side wont close all the way. its the passenger side. the driver side works fine, but the dam sunroof stays cracked alil on the pass side. someone please help this is driving me crazxy
hmmm i had the same prob with my 89 crx Si, passenger side would stay cracked. no matter what i did (wd40, grease, sat on it, beat the hell out of it, everything)it wouldnt close all the way. good thing for the sunroof drains. if u have it partially open, u can see a pin on each side that slides up and down, that allows it to lift up and down. just look u will see what i mean when u have some one playing with the switch, u outside watching the moving parts. i jammed a screwdriver in there somehow to make that pin slide, got it closed and never opened it again. keep in mind this was a beater car, and didnt really care. but im pretty sure those "pins" have something to do with it.....

u dont need pics trust me just have some one open and close it. watch the parts that move on the side that closes properly. theres a lil pin that slides up and down in a slot, idk how else to explain just look u will see
I've been through these sunroof nightmares. After buying 2 sunroof tray assemblies on ebay and both not working as well (same problem where one side closes and the other stays poped up).
I finally bit the bullet and just went to Honda and bought a brand new tray and all moving parts basically (wasnt cheap!). Got the old tray and the new empty one side by side and used the old one for reference to where and how everything goes together (plus a few schematics).
What I have noticed, is that there is like a plastic arm (attatched to a housing where the cable runs through) and attached to that plastic arm is basically another metal arm that moves that "pin" mentioned above, on my original sunroof and the 2 others i bought off ebay, all had this part broken. You can not open this "housing" and just replace the plastic part- you need a new cable assembly is what i think its called. Kinda hard to explain because there are ALOT of little parts that at first glance your basically like WTF...but after rebuilding the sunroof it all makes sence...
PS - This is my first post on H-T...hope it helps.

sounds to me like the one of the cables is broken or damaged. honda sells a kit to rebuild this mechanism.... let me tell you this is probably the most tedious job i have done!
yesssssss. i fixed it. found a "how to" rip apart your roof on here. so i took everything out. headliner moldings ect. when i got the damn sunroof off it turned out that the screw that connects theplastic thing to the rest of the mechenism came loose. so i screwed it back in. the other side was loose to so i hit that one as well. put everything back and now everthing works perfect. howerever i do suspect its leaking now. becaseu i took it to the car waash and after i parked it forl like 3 hours and came back it smelled like "wet mops" i havent seen any water though. btw doesa anyone have a sunroof skin for me??
Since you took out your sunroof you know about the drain holes at each corner...(Make sure you clip the drain tubes back on...i forgot it once or twice)
What you can do if there isnt too much dirt is blow some compressed air through them...if that dosent work just get to the ends of them and get that dirt out.
If its not the sunroof drains then check your weather seals. My CRX at the bodyshop now gettin a resto job, i'm having them replace EVERYTHING so no worries later on.
As for the rusty panel...I got one of those carbon fiber ones off ebay some time ago (no rust
)...You can look for the fiberglass replacement panels should help...just make sure its the ones to keep it functional...unless you want to plug it up
