joking?... maybe you saw a JDM OBDIIB ECU as opposed to a USDM 97-98 OBDIIA ECU? I could be wrong though.

I know my freinds 01 ITR's ECU is shorter (more square) than mine. I have a 98 ITR and the ECU is longer than his. 98 would be the OBDIIA and 01 would be the OBDIIB.
................................USDM.............. .................................................. JDM............................................... .......USDM
All jdm itr ecus are long. Longer than the 00-01 itr ecus. As far as telling the difference. You can look at the code and if its jdm it will say something like p73-013 which will refer to a 98-99 jdm itr ecu. If it says p73-A13 it will refer to a 98 usdm itr ecu. The A being the key code for American.

Yes it does matter.... you will want to use a jdm P73 if you are purchasing a jdm ITR motor.

Wouldnt you also wanna make sure its the same obd?? as your car? I had a 97 ek hatch with a 97 jdm itr along with a obdIIa ecu. Everything worked fine, absolutely no codes.

well you just need to make sure that you have the wiring correct. I used a 96-97 spec P73 on my Si, you just have to rewire it correctly to work!

IMHO and from what I've seen jdm ecu's are exactly the same physically as usdm, the size is the same and change when you get to obdIIb.

Just to be completely clear, I am replacing my destroyed b18c1 which is USDM with the exact same but JDM, The guy at Sunrise auto says it is best to use the manifolds from the USDM so that everything matches up the same, but he says there will be no other issues, which I assume means no issues with the ECUs ie. there are identical and interchangable. So if I need a new wire harness or something it would be good to know now.

The intake manifold should be exactly the same between the usdm & jdm swap....
Do your self a favor and install a skunk2 , aebs or blox intake manifold & get your self a chipped obd1 ecu.

Jdm obd1 ecus are smaller then usdm obd1 ecus hence my response.
I was not thinking obd2 :-)
