Default emissions problems, and cooling fan problems... ef sedan with B16A swap...

okay, well I have attempted 3 times to pass emissions here in Washington, but I keep failing on the idle hydrocrbon count... too high... they say its from running lean, and increasing the idle speed to almost max allowed helped, but its still way off from passing. my ignition timing is set to right on the dot, basically.. so is there something I can tweak, or adjust timing so I can pass? I have until the end of june...

and when it comes to my cooling fan, well it just never turns on, and it usually isn't a problem but when I was waiting in line for emissions, my temp went way up and steam was shooting out of my overflow thing... I used to have A/C but I removed everything except the wires for the second fan and compressor and stuff.. is there something I need to connect for it to work? or could it be a bad sensor?

thanks for your time.. its much appreciated!

Id just hard wire the cooling fan, to a 12 volt ignition source. I thougt high hydrocarbons was from being to rich. I had that problem in my old 4-door i lowered the fuel pressure a few psi and it was good to go.

ok , I'll have to install my new fuel rail and stuff for that first.
i was also wondering if timing would make a difference?
when i first got tested, my timing was off a bit and I was the closest to passing, but then I got timing dead on, and reduced idle, and that made it a million times worse, so the third time I increased idle to almost max, and it helped a lot, but still not as close as it was on attempt #1...

Fix your timing and for the fan I had a switch for it, so I think you could just make one.

ok timing is dead on right now... should it be retarded or advanced?

High NOx are caused by high engine temps. Theres another issue with the engine which is causing high HC's at idle. Mine is the same way and I don't know why. I have a stock ecu also.

ok well I never got around to testing emissions again as my car stopped working at the last minute, so I just tole them my car didn't run at the department of lecensing, and they gave me tabs! its amazing.
