92 EXR transmission problems?
My friend and I bought a 92' EXR (automatic transmission) that had sustained some flood damage with intentions of fixing it up and selling it. The car was damaged during hurricane Ivan and was sitting on a steep inlcline so that the water only got as far as the front floor boards ( just far enough to fry the computers). Since the main computer and the transmission computer were submerged in water, we have since replaced them as well as several fuses. Now all of the fuses (that we can test) are good, all of the electrical parts of the car work, and the car runs....But, it won't start in Park.. Despite the fact that we have changed the TCU, the car still shows that it is in D4 all the time. It will recognize that it is in other gears also, but both gears (both D4 and the gear that it is actually in) are lit up at the same time. As it is, the car can be cranked in neutral but it will not crank in park. I'm not 100% sure but I think that the two are probably related..I'm fairly sure that the TCU is good..If not, the guy I bought it from on Ebay warranties it...But the signal is obviously getting jammed somewhere...Any ideas??? Thanks, Brandon
check your interlock switch and your gear selector indicator. It looks like your selector indicator has a short in it causing the indicator lights to act funny. It could also be the instrument clustor or a problem with the wiring due to being flooded.
