Default 02 sensor replacement help

I have an 89 honda accord lx-i that needs to have an o2 sensor replaced. But I just can't figure out how to get the old ones off. I attached a pic of where the two are. They're not in the ordinary section of the exhaust they're way up on the manifold. Here's a couple of pics.

ANy help?

You need to get an 02 sensor socket. It looks just like a standard socket but one side is cut out to allow the wire to be uncut. Or......you could just cut the wire to get it out of the way. They are usually tight....so spray it with some PB Blaster or WD 40 or something like that. Good luck

you need an o2 sensor socket cutting wire is fine and dandy to take it out but how about putting the new 1 in ??? his advise on spraying it with wd is a good 1 ,,it does look it is a bit rusty in there ...and also as he said they are very tight get a good pry bar and watch your knuckles ...

if you dont mind bleeding your system you can remove the radiator out of the way. If you dont want to go that far then just remove the cooling fans (will give you enough room not to bite your knuckles that much).

And yea, get the O2 socket. Its like max cost of $12 but it will save the O2's from damage. I would suggest using anti-seeze on them instead of WD-40 when you install them. To help remove use Liquid Wrench (yellow can not blue) it will eat the rust off for lunch. and takes about 20min for it to soak threw it.

Good luck

I wouldn't worry about putting anything on the new O2 sensor, they come with anti-seeze on them already. At least Bosch replacements do.

hmm, i'd use PB Blaster instead of wd40/liquid wrench... then after install of new 02 sensor, blast the oily residue w/ some brake cleaner & let dry...

You can go to Autozone and lend a 02 sensor removal socket for $15 deposit.

I recommend heating the exhaust pipes for about 5 minutes (stepping gas pedal continuously at about 2000rpm), turn the engine off and quickly get under the car to remove the sensor using the special socket.

Exhaust pipes expand when heated.

Hope this helps..
