My friend is trying to buy this ITR at Carmax (he and I both work there) but in order for him to buy it they must run an emission test first. Well the car has a test pipe and wont pass.
Basically I would like to "Rent" a stock ITR cat for about a week. The person who help will be compensated for his generosity. And I need this ASAP...
By the way the car has a JDM 4-1 header and spoon exhaust, will the factory cat bolt up without any leaks?
PLEASE help...thanks
Chris
:edit: well I guess the jdm 4-1 wont fit stock cat... so if anybody has stock header and cat fo Rent (will give you $$$) for one week, please PM me

but at least they will put it on the dyno and try. Its pretty much stock motor wise so It should have no problem passing with a cat.
So all these people running the JDM header have test pipes or high flow cats? I had no idea.
I knew there would be a bottle neck but I didnt think it would be impossible. I mean if the stock cat can bolt up to the spoon intermidiate pipe which I believe is 2.5 inches should the stock cat bolt to a 2.5 inch header collector?
Even if it leaks a little bit, I might be able to get the emissions inspector to plug his hears with some $5 bills haha

Yes Carmax has two dyno's in house, but they are only used to do emission on carmax cars that are going to be sold to customers. If it does not pass emissions then it will go to a wholesale auction were only private dealers are allowed to bid
it will probally go to some shaddy dealer and be ruined for the rest of its life. Please people help save a fellow type R!!!!

the issue is the length, not the diameter. The cat you need will be SHORTER than the stock cat b/c the header you have is longer than the OEM USDM header. IIRC, you need something about 17" in length.
Someone probably has a cat for a jdm header/usdm length exhaust for you here....
chris - who notes the only two 'jdm' (i.e., gsr) length exhausts he knows of are the fujitsubo RM-01A and 'JDM' Mugen Twinloop (they made a USDM length one too).
looks like im slow to respond..

by "spoon exhaust", if it does include the spoon bpipe...you can add that to the list of JDM length b-pipes also...

As Zygspeed suggested, I would probably contact SMSP. They are located in VA, and Dave can get you the correct cat you need. Too bad you're not closer to GA, I have a stock exhaust you could have rented! G'luck.
I have a non-VTEC header I'll give you, if you feel like coming up here and picking it up. You'll need to get a donut gasket and the cat still though, so I don't know how helpful that is...
