Default How to protect my ITR?

I will be buying a 2000 ITR in a few days, just wanted to see how I can protect my car. Like what kind of kill switches or alarm system will be good? I heard that people can steal an R by switching the ecu with a gsr ecu and somehow break the ignition, but what about the transponder chip? any input will be good, thanks

First line of defense -- common sense.

Also need:

-A Garage

-Preferably a motion sensor/door sensor in the garage

-Good security system in the car/pref with a paging system.

-Pray every night

Good luck with the purchase and keep'er safe.

buy insurance and think about where you park it.. otherwise, if they want it they're going to take it.. no matter what you do..

Thieves will follow/stalk and people will talk.

Garages can be penetrated. The only thing that will keep you safe is praying that it doesn't get stolen.

Make sure you get full coverage, pager alarm, lowjack, a good dog and one of those things I posted above. I've had mine for almost 5 years and it seldom is seen inside the garage. Make sure you make it harder for them to steal it by parking it with a car behind it and not taking it where it could be stolen.

It really doesn't bother me to let people know where I live for the simple fact that I know they won't take my car without a big confrontation

It's a tease for them to drive by and see an R sitting there they can't have.

Get full coverage insurance and enjoy your car. If they want it they are going to take it. The sooner you realize it the better off you will be.

The only thing that can keep it safe is a good insurance policy.

I don't know about it keeping the car safe, but keeping the wallet safe is a different story.

I would recommend no less than:

1 Club on steering wheel
1 Club between shifter/ebrake
1 Autolock on clutch/brake
1 or more Kill Switches
Alarm

I'd call this "Level 1" security

On a more serious note, get a removable steering wheel, and keep the car on jackstands with the wheels off when you're not driving it.

Buddy, the best thing you can do to keep your car from getting stolen is to keep a low profile.

So many people (myself included ) have problems grasping this concept.

The first day you get it ... go out and find the local street races, and then have them follow you to the mall while you watch a movie inside.
