Catalytic convertor questions
After driving my rex for so long, it has finally become too loud. I looked under the car and realized....the previous owner has removed the cat!!! There is a straight pipe there, welded in, where the cat should be. We don't have emissions tests for pre-96 vehicles, so, I'm good on that measure.
The problem is, it sounds realllly raspy and ricey and I'd like to quiet it down a bit. The car has some cheap eGay headers, an AEM CAI, and some cheap muffler. I'm considering getting a new cat, a DC header, and possibly a full cat back system but, how will it effect MPG and the little performance I have (bone stock 89 si)? By putting a catalytic convertor back on, would I notice a difference?
Ideas, comments?

First of all..There's nothing wrong with ebay headers and mufflers..I have an ebay header, and ebay(obx) full exhaust on a 200hp lsvtec crx..
Put on a magnaflow high flow cat from jegs..You'll notice a sound level deepen and get less raspy..May loose some top end power but you'll hardly notice it with the d16a6..
And when you let the motor breath better you actually get better mpg..

well if you put a high-flow cat on it and then a dc header and a full exhaust it will make you about the same amount of power as before maybe a little less but it will still sound better than tha t ricey *** ****
I have a CarSound cat on my car EX, and I only paid $90 for it. Fits where it should and sounds great. No noticeable power loss off the resonator that I had on it.
