turbo GSR...a little help
ok here's my question's..i have a couple...i just bought a bone stock 1994 4 door GSR with 180k miles on it...it has never been modified nuthin..it's in great condition..i also just bought....the drag gen 3 turbo kit..i upgraded to the TIAL wg...rc 310cc injectors..greddy E-01 boost controller...greddy E-manager with ignition harness...blox map bypass...b&m fpr....b&m fuel pressure gauge...act clutch and lightened flywheel...boost gauge..air to fuel ration gauge...and last but not the least a NX c02 intercooler sprayer....my question is will my motor last..or is that to many miles..the car has never been raced "other than when i test drove it"..and was maintained well......also should install everything at once...turbo and elec...or should i get the turbo kit on and workin then start with the ecu and boost control stuff...does it matter...also what should i do about my fans...i need ac..i live in AZ it's hot as hell down here...any feedback is greatly appreciated
damn, boosting at 180k. when i was considering boost, i was worried because i have 110k miles. i think most guys here would recmmend rebuilding the engine and perhaps fortifying it with stronger parts: rods, lower comp. pistons. sorry i dont know why i posted, i dont really know much about this kind of thing.
to me, lol
to me, lol
Yah, I'd DEFINATELY recommend a rebuild. You'll kill two birds with one stone, because you can go with a low compression setup (pistons, rods, etc) while the engine is out during the rebuild. After that you'll be able to boost the **** out of that motor.
um...compression was great...the teg was owned by some **** old dude....he brought it to ACURA for every service...i have like a 10inch stack of service records.....i plan on doin a total rebuild...but not for a while...i wanna get that ITR front end paint the car...put rim's...brakes....suspension...so i was hopin it would do ok til then

oh ya...i heard that u have to cut up the drag pipes to get them to fit is that true....also i see alot of people talkin crap about the e-manage...it that because it's harder to use or because it's newer ..plz let me know..i'm startin the install this week hopefully
i have an stock 95 gsr and was plannin to go turbo. i was thinkin of goin e-manage or fmu or injectors shots... i kno fmu is the cheapest way to go. any inputs? can someone help me...

Thread Jacker!!!!
As far as boosting with 180 on the clock, it will be fine. i have 170,xxx on mine running 7 psi. But i am going to rebuild. So its really up to you. A. Put turbo on, run around with it for awhile.Blow up. take apart and rebuild. Or B. Rebuild boost like whoa!!

Hey,
My GSR motor had 120,xxx on it when it got the boost. It lasted about 20,xxx more on all stock internals with 10 psi of boost. The rings ended up wearing a little too much. If anyone is in New England, I highly recommend Edgar Machine for engine work and building.

ya i figured that the motor will only hold a little til it goes...what usaully blows with a turbo motor..i'm used to all motor...i have put many rod's thru my block but the head i could usaully save....any one???...if you have blow a turbo motor...what caused it and what did you have to replace

motors blow for various reasons. sometimes you just get a rod or piston to go. sometimes just piston rings. sometimes you even get a hole in the block. but that's worse case scenerio.
I am assuming by your guys comments that even if you do have a good tune with stock GSR internals, your motor will still blow at some point in time? I'm interested cause i would like to boost (8psi) my GSR in a year or so and i'm at 167,000km now. Thats around 100k miles. Also i would use E-manage, its the next best thing to a standalone from what i know.
Ohh and to the person who started this thread, i personally wouldn't boost with that many miles without a rebuild or a good tune on hondata, AEM...etc.

actually I was told the complete opposite: as long as your car is tuned with a good standalone( if..hondata, aem, etc...) and you don't go crazy on boost, a non factory turbocharged vehicle that is turbocharged should last just as long as a factory turbocharged minus the warrranty! Good luck to the oruginal poster but I would do a rebuild jsut to be safe.

my 00 gsr has about 75k miles n i was told i shud run 10 to 12 psi for more than 20k miles..si i would think u could handle 10

i have done a couple of cars with 450cc injectors off a manual turbo dodge colt and then a safc and have had not problems with anything i also reccomend a fuel pressure regulator just to be safe the trick is to trick the stock ecu into thinking its stock and it see's no boost but that is a budget setup if you spend a little more money with hondata you have more tuneability in the long run
