Picked up some alpinestars SP-1 gloves and RC back protector. I went their also to buy to buy the Spinner jacket, but they didnt have my size, so i might get a TZ-1, it fit more snug, might pick one up this week, from a private seller. The gloves are aweome, i love the way they fit. I got XL because the large i couldnt really fit my hand to begin with.lol but the XL fits about right, wish it was a just a tad tad bit more small in lenght in the fingers. I was gonna get the GP plus, but i found these to fit me for now, plus they cost 50 bucks less

what is that back protector made of? looks like its just a giant lump of foam
i ended up getting a dainese g2 back protector insert for my alpinestar jacket, but i find that it moves around a bit.

inside its polystirene, outer is polyster and polyamide. Its CE certified, but i think i might go the same route u went, and get a differnt slip in protector. but for now i got the A*.
