Default HIDE YOUR PLATES

Just a reminder for everyone in California to hide their plates when posting a pic. Unfortunately the wonderful state of California has decided that if you have access to a plate ID then you also have the right to access the same cars VIN....very easily (I won't say how b/c I don't want potential theives using it)! Just don't want anyone's hard work to be wrongfully taken away.

So should you also drive around without plates?
My guess is that the amount of people that sees my car on my daily communte exceeds the number of people seeing pics off my car online.

I just can't see the point of this.

WOW!!! if u drive ur car outside or park outside anyone can see ur VIN and plates so no point

order a key??? u need proof that u own a title

oh and i drive a 90 hatch my key opened up my friends crx that was locked just didnt start it.
so shows that u dont need to order a key, alot of older cars u can use ur key to open up a difernt car, my friend had a 93 sentra se-r, lady locked her keys in her car, she had a nissan sentra 4dr he opened it up with his key.

might as well cover them up/photoshop them out. sure people see them when you're driving, but it's basically advertising to thieves on here with all the engine bay shots and explanation of mods.

p.s. - a lot of people have their vin covered up in their car. I know I do.

You are also allowed to cover up your VIN number that is on your dash board. A strip of electrical tape will do the job nicely!

I thought about this and why not get a key and the ignition stuff from a different manurfacter and can you get your key copied if the your car and key are both from a different manurfacter?

The people who are seeing your car on your daily commute are probably normal people. People on H-T are all Honda enthusiasts, and along with them come thieves. They are on the boards for sure...and the Appearance forum is like a goldmine for them, they can see everything you've got.

I hint sarcasim from SonicBlueTeg (duly noted :D ). The main reason I was bringing this to light is because only in the state of California can you get this info without any special clearance/access/authority. Simply put people that have no reason to get the info can easily derive it from your plates.

A friend of mine actually got a $10 ticket for having his VIN covered. Do you know where in the books it states that we are allowed to cover up the VIN?

I don't have time to photoshop. I encourage theives to take my car. The one time I catch them will be worth all the stolen parts.
