Default Motocycle parking petition. Please sign

Petition: Affordable and Secure Motorcycle and Motor Scooter Parking

Please post this on any and all website forums you belong to. Anyone in the Los Angeles area that feels traffic and parking congestion are a problem should sign this petition (or at least consider it). Please encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to sign.

This is not only about motorcycle parking. This is a step toward getting our government officials to recognize motorcycles and scooters as a viable form of transportation.

We are seeing a massive boom in the popularity of motorcycles and scooters in this country, not only for recreation, but for daily transportation. It is important for the future of motorcycling, our transportation systems and our economy that we begin pushing our government to recognize this magnificant form of transportation.

They don't?

Isn't every motorcycle allowed to use the carpool lane at any time? Don't you have free parking spots downtown for bikes?

Because we do here in San Diego.....

Yes we are allowed to use the carpool lane. Congested, busy, hectic Downtown L.A. free parking? Hell no. They charge for everything.

Did you kindly sign the petiton.

Thanks for the support everybody.

Sorry, I can't endorse this.....

Reasons why:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">We, the undersigned, as citizens, residents, workers, laborers, shoppers, diners and visitors in the City or County of Los Angeles, demand the creation of safe, secure and free or reasonably priced motorcycle and motor scooter (collectively, Powered Two-Wheel “PTW” vehicles) parking at all parking lots and parking facilities within the City and County of Los Angeles, including but not limited to, privately owned and managed public parking facilities, and all government buildings and offices. </TD></TR></TABLE>

What class of 2 wheeled vehicle is considered a PTW? more than 50CC? Electric? Gas? What about powered scooters and wheelchairs? Are they classified as a PTW? Will there be handicapped parking available for these as well? What about Trikes? Do they fall in the PTW classification?

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The popularity of motorcycles as a daily form of transportation is skyrocketing. With the substantial increase in gasoline prices, traffic, and congestion, many drivers are parking their cars and SUV’s in favor of PTW vehicles. PTW’s reduce pollution, reduce traffic congestion, reduce parking congestion, and reduce roadway wear and tear. All this results in lower costs to our City and County for roadway repair and maintenance, reduces the need for new roadways, and reduces the need for large parking lots and parking structures – land which could instead be used for more shops and restaurants, parks and green space, or child recreation areas.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Let me get this straight. You want the city NOT to build more parking so there is more room for shops, restaurants, parks and green space or child recreation areas.....

HOW are we as drivers supposed to get to these establishments, and WHERE are we supposed to park since you've removed most all the parking structures.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">However, there is a serious lack of safe, secure, and affordable off-street parking for PTW’s within both the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles. PTW’s occupy one-fourth (1/4th) the space of the average car and one-sixth (1/6th) the space of most SUV’s, yet most parking facilities charge full price to PTW’s. Since PTW’s can often park in corner spaces or around structural supports where an automobile can not fit, we demand that a law or ordinance require parking facilities to make such parking spaces available to PTW’s for free, or, when a designated PTW parking area occupies what otherwise would be a paid automobile parking space, we demand that a law or ordinance limit PTW parking fees to one-fourth (1/4th) the rate for automobiles.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I hate to burst this one, but not all PTW's take up 1/4 or less space. And to "DEMAND" anything will get you nowhere. The CITY does not regulate parking structures, these are privately owned parking garages and they can charge you whatever they want. If you are arguing on this basis, then I DEMAND to pay 1/4 the amount of registration fees because my motorcycle puts out less emmissions and does less damage to the roads than our Governors Hummer.

Ok, I'm done because the rest is just stupid. Demand this, demand that......

Did any of you actually read this? The undersigned doesn't even have a plan to make it work properly!

Cliff notes:

A) What is a PTW defined as in size and displacement
B) Who oversees which lots can or cannot be designated as PTW friendly
C) What fees are lost and how much impact is this to the local economy
D) What is the estimated usage of said PTW parking
E) What is defined as a "SECURE" parking area. Who will monitor this?
F) Who will pay for said "Concreate Kickstand Pads", what is the total economic cost to the city? Will this be passed on to the taxpayers? Which taxpayers will pay? Cage drivers or just PTW drivers?

Sorry to be a thorn in your side, but read the whole deal and think about what it's really going to mean for motorcycle riders. I have yet to EVER pay for any parking spot while on my motorcycle. There has always been some kind of free parking for me to squeeze into.

Youve been lucky then to find parking. SD and LA is run differently. But thanks for your input and thanks to the people that signed.

Here in L.A., the city has put a red zone on spaces that a motorcyle can fit and be able to park. I.E. meter parkings. You can fit a motorcycle between 2 cars on a meter parking but the city has marked those spaces as a Red zone.

I doubt it online petition will help, if it does I will spend some time signing it, but if not I'll just wait. Plus not that much people would want to leave their bikes alone in public places, it'll just be another good target for thieves to just find bike parking places to steal. I don't know pretty drunk sorry for the dumb comment.
